When I started this topic it was the amount of trades that set me off. I still dont think trading a 4th,5th,6th,7th round pick for a 1st or a 2nd is good trading. However if it was just 1 trade I probably wouldnt have minded it. My problem was these same trades were done for up to 5 seasons in advance and on multiple leagues. You cant sell me your rebuilding by trading away all your 1st and 2nd round picks for seasons you havnt reached yet. That was my main issue. To me that was unfair for the rest of us and from my understanding one of the owners agreed to reverse them but the other didnt, of course it was the owner who benefited from the trades. But hey, I am just full of hot air.

Hopefully with the way trades are now we wont have that problem anymore but it still doesnt make up for the fact that someone can make those trades and decide to leave the league.

I must be as well then.

I don't think either of you are full of hot air. A big reason this issue is being discussed and attempts to fix them is because you've brought up concerns.

I'm looking forward to seeing if the new trade guidelines help promote "fairier" trades.

So you've game-planned all season and come up short a few times, but you can look forward to upgrading your team a little by picking earlier in the drafts, rounds 1 and 2 especially.

But then as the draft unfolds a team has multiple picks , and not just this draft....

This is an example of what I'm going on about.

Draft picks from 2020 through to 2024....

Round 1
Round 1
Round 2
Round 3
Round 3
Round 4
Round 4

Round 1
Round 1
Round 2
Round 2
Round 3
Round 5

Round 4

Round 6
Round 7

Personally, I don't think this is fair, although it is within the rules. Just like the NFL? Not that that matters.

Actually, this is what the NE Patriots do all the time (real life Patriots, not MFN).

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/nwe/draft.htm

How would it make a difference to your draft if the two picks before you were made by two different teams, or both by the same team? I don't see it makes a difference, other than it is even less likely the same position would be taken twice in a row (unless they are on auto draft).

It seems like they were in a "win now" mode, which is perfectly fine with me.

I don't want to take away the ability to mortgage the future for a chance to win now. Real teams do it all the time.

In rl the owners have a downside if the gamble doesn't pay off. In online games they can just walk away leaving a poor team which nobody will want.

Then they come back the next year with a new team. That has happened.

F**K the patriots.

Its NOT about ME.
There are 32 teams allocated 1 pick in every round in every draft, the general idea is that that the worst team has the best chance to make itself better by picking before the other better teams, its called parity.

I guess you either don't see anything wrong with this or not. I do, you apparently do not.

Syndicates do not belong here.

Actually NE is usually trading out of the first round and getting 2nd round and later picks, but they draft smart and the drafts on here are no where near the drafts in the nfl. The patriots daft players in the 6th,7th rounds and even get undrafted players and make solid NFL players out of them pretty much every season. You cant do that on here. If your a weaker or mediocre team in this game and you cant land the big free agents and you dont have those early draft picks because someone is duping you into believing quantity is better then quality then your always going to be in the middle of the pact or lower.

The trades that are happening now I havnt had any problems with. The earlier ones before this topic started is the ones I did. the trade on MFN-6 with the rookie QB for 2 first rounders is a good trade imo. **** I would have probably wanted more for him, Guess thats why I dont do many trades because I put high value on good players and early draft picks unless its a player I really need and then I might over spend on a trade.

This is my first time playing and I've made a few dumb trades already....with that being said does salary cap come into play at all? I don't see how teams can afford that many top picks

I've been trying to think of a way to avoid the very real issue of players selling the future to win now, then leaving the team to an unsuspecting new owner to have to deal with.

I have only been able to come up with one idea, which may or may not be any good.

Here it is.

1. Season Renewals
Currently you can renew your team through the "next" season.
I propose that you may NOT renew for any seasons past the current one using "free" credits. Also, that you CAN renew for up to 5 additional seasons using "paid" credits.

I think that requiring even a small financial commitment would do a lot to encourage owners to stick around. And, this is purely optional. You can still play for free if you desire.

In addition, you should be able to renew for the next season with "free" credits once the trading deadline has passed. This will allow owners who wish to stick around the ability to do so without losing their team.

2. Future Trades
Currently you can trade picks for up to 5 years in advance (I think).
I propose that you can only trade picks for the "next" season, OR any future seasons you are registered for.

Because of #1, you would have to use "paid" credits in order to be eligbile to trade picks for years beyond the next one.

I think that those two items, combined with the new balance bar that's already been implemented, will do a lot to help curb this issue.

Is this a good idea? Awful? Any other suggestions other than just limiting an owner's ability across the board?
