I did consider this and capped the years forward that you could trade to a place I felt was a good compromise. The only option I see Is just reducing the forward years to 2 or 3, but I also don't want to limit the options to trade either. Do you feel that reducing like that would make it difficult for legit trading?
In real life, if a GM makes a terrible trade he loses his job. In MFN, if a GM makes a terrible trade, he can just walk away without penalty and leave his mess to his successor (and even join another MFN league for a do-over).
Unfortunately, in order to protect the integrity of a league, the "commish" should subjectively evaluate whether a trade can be defended from both participants' perspective. That might mean occasionally disapproving a trade proposal and upsetting the participants (as opposed to some or all of the rest of the league if it goes through). Alternatively, where there is some question as to whether a trade should be processed, the commish also could put it to a confidential vote by the other GMs (for example, my (super?)-majority vote (exclusive of the trade participants). Most GMs would probably not interfere with anyone's trades, but the most egregious trades would likely be prevented. Just a thought.
