Congratulations to New Orleans on their impressive run of 3 World Bowl titles in 4 seasons. This has been matched once before and bested once, both by the Houston Gamblers.
Detroit was the first repeat champion, winning World Bowls III and IV, then Memphis won VI and VII. The next champs were New Jersey, Houston, New Jersey again, then Houston again back to back in World Bowls XI and XII, giving the Gamblers 3 of 4, the first team to do it.
Memphis then won World Bowls XIII, XIV, and XVII, giving them 3 in 5 years. Portland won World Bowl XVI, then also won XVIII and XX to also give them 3 in 5 years.
Houston was next, winning 3 in a row with trophies in World Bowls XXI, XXII, and XXIII. This is the only time in history a team won 3 straight, with New Orleans missing a chance at a threepeat last season. New Jersey followed with back to back wins in XXIV and XXV before Houston won again in World Bowl XXVI to give them 4 wins in 6 seasons.
That Houston win started a decade run of different champions until New Orleans started their current run.
Will New Orleans continue this run in 2012? Will San Jose start a run? If they were to go back to back, that would be 3 in 4 years for them. Will San Antonio break through and start a run of their own? Houston gets back in the trophy picture for title #10?
We'll find out next season.
