Re: Dead Cap Reset

I would like to have some formula or figure where I can determine if they get the relief or not once I'm asked. Then I would make a post announcing so and so got dead cap relief.

If we can't agree on a formula or figure, then we could do a case by case basis whenever I'm asked. In this scenario I would make a poll and the league would determine if I give the relief or not.

Giving anyone cap relief affects the entire league so that's why I'm seeking league input.

My opinion is forgiving dead cap space is an unfair advantage to new owners also, though through no fault of their own of course. My thoughts would be more along the lines of penalizing people in some way that abandon teams that they have screwed up. Unless owner is OBVIOUSLY brand new to the game. Say a restriction to how many leagues they could be in at one time or even downright banning for a set amount of time. A lot of leagues are dying as it is i know but perhaps a strong core group of a couple hundred owners can be in four leagues each with little turnover. Just throwing things out there. To clarify i play this game for free so others may not approve of this on the grounds that pay MFN money.

You asked why nobody responded to this? Well I have no control over how many leagues someone can join. I can make a rule about it, but it would be unenforcable unless I boot people out of here for too many leagues and I'm not gonna do that.

How would I punish someone who abandons a team? They abandoned it means they left the league, thus they are out of my reach. All I can do at that point is determine if I would let them back in or not.

Your heart/mind are in the right place, as nobody likes half full leagues but I can't implement any of this.
start more private leagues and invite only known quantities either personally or through trusted associates. I wasnt asking you to do anything really but just trying to get a consensus on this. Like i said just throwing things out there. Thanks for the reply greg.

From what I've read so far, here is what we have for a consensus...

1) Cap relief is for new owners only

2) The new owner must ask for cap relief, it's not automatic

3) It will only be approved if the cap situation is bad

If anyone has any objections to #1 or #2 let me know asap, otherwise I'm assuming we're all in agreement new owners must ask first.

#3 is where I see us at now, determining what makes a cap situation bad.
Perhaps allowing owner to draft all his picks(as long as there isn't forty of them) plus three to five mil over that?

We already kind of have that to some degree. There are a lot of people who are in all of CJ's leagues and certain leagues are always full or near full. This is a discussion for another thread though, I'd like to keep this one on the topic of what our dead cap relief will be.

That's another way to do it, don't have a set number but leave them the ability to sign draft picks.

One thing to remember is that dead cap relief has always been an available option, the only thing that's changed is we no longer have to ask JDB to do it for us. I think I've done that one time for this league, can't remember for sure.

I rereading this and not sure what response you are looking for?

Most of your suggestions are out of any league admins ability to accomplish. I'm not for forgiveness of dead cap in 99.9% of cases but when someone destroys a francise through malicious intent or ignorance then forgiving dead cap becomes a viable option to recruit a new owner.

Let me say this again.....99.9% of the time....I won't forgive dead cap even for a new owner but their have been times it would have been a viable option.

Sorry, I didn't respond to this the first time but as a league administrator, you can only control the league you run plus inform other admins that "Owmer X" is toxic and screwed a francise up.

Beyond booting an owner or not letting an owner join....admins have no other power when it comes to punishing owners who abuse a team....even when it's done maliciously. Trust me, I've dealt with it in the past and informed JDB with all the evidence and even then he is super reluctant to do anything about it.

I guess a toxic user is better then no user. Hope this answers your post

To be honest Greg, I think using common sense is the rule here. You, I or any league admin worth his salt will know when dead cap releif is warranted.

It's gonna be very rare and only for an owner joining the league and taking over a team that has been raped and pillaged.

That's my 2 cents but the overall dilemma is getting new owners to join becomes more difficult because what's a new owners 1st question gonna be? Can you zero outmy dead cap and then I will join!!

OK guys, this is gonna be hilarious. Remember how I said I asked JDB to clear dead cap once? I couldn't remember who/when I did it for so I looked up my message history with JDB.

I did it last November for my new best friend Waitwut.

I'm against resetting cap at any point whatsoever. I would prefer giving up my team to a new player & taking over a train wreck team myself, before I'd go along with resetting a teams cap.

A player, that lives & dies by making trades, makes his own bed by choice & shouldn't get a relief option. I don't see the logic in bailing someone out of their own mess.

The AI signings can be resolved by an experienced owner without having to resort to any of this. This would be the only viable reason to have a cap reset. It should still be discussed prior to happening for the reasons I've stated above.
