Re: State of the Game

For me it's not questions of distance, plays available, or rules. There are enough plays and rules to simulate any of these strategies. I'm saying that if you try it, you're in for a world of frustration . . . unless your strategy matches the straightjacket that is being created.

NERFs intended to make this game match a certain subset of NFL stats are not helping. IMO 4.3 was not perfect, but it was more fun. My wish is that jdb would concentrate more on fixing basics, like trade values, and less on the tweaking gameplay suggestions that come out of beta. No offense to the Beta league, they are doing what they are supposed to be doing. I 'm saying those suggestions may feel more URGENT, but that urgency leads to ill-considered implementation . . . and ultimately they're less IMPORTANT.

All the low-scoring field-goal battles of 0.4.4 and 0.4.5 remind me of the NFL in 1977. Not the most exciting games to watch. In fact, after 1977 the NFL started all the rule-changes that led to the pass-happy game of today. This evening I realized that one of the leagues I was in, it was draft day for the 3rd or 4th, or maybe the 5th, 6th & 7th round. I thought "ooh ****, did I remember to queue up any players?" Then I thought "who cares".

I liked the last version to be honest it made it more fun for all. Yea the qbs were all 80 percent accurate but it worked for all.

Now 4.5 is rediculous. The great edge rushers are neutered being sacks are way down

Db is king again. I mean i have a cb in afl that was always good but midseason he hass 11 ints. This is making the qb play turning my qbs into int machines.

For instance in Arena alliance my qb Major Baily was a hall of fame type qb even though he was 84 accuracy. That team won a champioship last season. Now he has 1 td and 11ints.

Worse version yet!!

In Rivals league we had a one QB, not mine fortunately, finish the season with one TD and FORTY interceptions.

Anybody got QB option plays, run the Cornhuskers' offense of the 70s?

Yes 40 INTs is a lot and a ridiculous number but his accuracy is only currently 45..lol. That’s kinda to be expected. I am not a fan of 4.5 but it makes sense with that horrible accuracy that he won’t be good. But I think his INTs should be lowered and incompletions higher imo. And I don’t know if “tweaks” have been made to the code but I have seen more incompletions up and less INTs league wide just recently. So that’s progress.

I have seen this as well, just in the last 2-3 days.

Personally, right now, I'm not a fan of the current version. I feel it's a step in the wrong direction. The league I'm in has done 3 pre-season games so far and based off my observations, here is what has changed

* Points: My team has gone from scoring 13.3 pts/game (first 3 pre-season games in 2019) to 4.0. Now, I will put a small amount of that to a change in coaching staff, but to drop almost 10 points in just three games, when the team has 99% stayed the same is not a good sign. On the flipside, the team has gone from allowing 15.6 pts/game to 23.6pts/game. Compare that between our S1 and S2, when the team went from 15pts/game scored to 13.3pts/game and 14pts/game allowed to 15.6pts/game. A tiny margin of change in those points scored and points allowed, which was understandable and frankly, acceptable. I'd expect the game engine to adapt in that way, not in a drop of almost 10 points a game scored, and an additional 8 points a game for my opponents.

* Coaching Staff: My entire coaching staff who focus on the offense all have the same offensive style, and the same for the defense (same defensive style), yet, that seems to make no difference to anything, in fact, it looks worse. My team runs a possession offense, yet in those same current 3 pre-season games, I've seen the team hold the ball for around 30mins/game, that has gone down to around 24mins/game. When every single offensive coach has the same offensive style, and every defensive coach has the same defensive style. Shouldn't that be something??? The previous season, coaches were a mix-match and yet, possession has gone down 6 mins/game (on average).

* Injuries: Way too many injuries now. 8 injuries in pre-season game 1, 4 injuries in pre-season game 2, 5 injuries in pre-season game 3. So far, in just three pre-season games, 17 injuries. Compare that to last season, (2 in game 1, 6 in game 2, 3 in game 3). 11 in 3 games. Even that is a little high, I don't think I've seen any real-life NFL game with 11 injuries on a team in three weeks.

I personally enjoy MFN, I have enjoyed it over the two previous seasons I've been a part of it, but this season just seems to be a step backwards.

Offensive production is down 20-30%. The coaching staff thing is neat. I suggested similar in the past. Like having coordinators with the same philosophy giving a bonus. Now that I think of it we should have all plays available then as you select plays within the coaches stlye the players should learn them quicker or something . Then having coordinators with the same style but different than the head coach would still benefit the team like in real-life. Sometimes i have always want to let my coordinators call the plays, and use the head coach as a mentor who helps with player development . As for injuries , they definitely add an element to the game, but in 1990 the body bag game changed nfl rules. 9 of Washingtons players had to leave the game and 6 went inactive . I don't think I have ever heard that happening here.
