It was a fair trade and a good, one for Cincy.
What made this a bust was the owner switching him to a DT. What makes you say he's a bust? Is it because his 65 speed? Best free safety I've ever had is LG 19 Peters who I regretfully traded to KC . He had 65 speed, my best stats were again from FS Felder who has 71 speed. This is kinda like trades that get evaluated by just ratings and owners who don't bother to check stats . He started out as an 87 with a 65 speed so why draft a player who is automatically a bust because hes not fast enough for what you think you need. Free safety's don't cover the fast WRs so speed isn't as important for them. I prefer it but I know that other ratings can make up for a slower FS.
I'm kinda stunned a owner would try and justify the strategy he uses like it's realistic or as if it works. Clearly it does not work to switch FS to DT and DE to CB. And to use speed as a positioning factor on your depth chart defeats the whole purpose of what the game is made for. That is creating your own system and building it depending on your players skills. I'm sure you might have seen one or two guys work out but records show and playoff appearances are slim Pickens .
I have no problem with any of it. Everybody has opinions about players , teams this or that. That's what makes this game so fun.
In a 4 Wide or 5 Wide Set, who does the FS Cover? Likely the 4th WR or 5th WR.
SS usually gets FB, then RB, then TE when they are available. FS usually gets RB, then TE, then Slot when available.
Teams with Fast RBs, TEs, or Slots can abuse a Safety for slow Speed.
Now, we see that Punisher loves Speed, even his Starting DT has 85 Speed, and the CB he traded for has 90 Speed. The guy, he values speed. (Though he does have a very solid Run Stopping DT in his Rotation, which is smart of him. So he doesn't completely abandon Run Stopping.)
Now, you might be able to make a 65 Speed Safety work. For you, he's not a Bust.
But Steve Young was absolutely a Bust for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was a HOF QB for the San Francisco 49er's. So perhaps you are more Bill Walsh/Mike Holmgrem, and Punisher is more John McKay/Leeman Bennett.
Which is to say that just because you can get a 65 Speed Free Safety to work doesn't mean everyone can. Just as McKay/Bennett couldn't get a HOF QB to be successful for them.
