Week 6I want to start by saying
SPOILER ALERT!! Stop reading if you do not want your game result revealed yet.
I repeat, stop reading if you don't know your game result yet.
**** naps, if I don't do this now, I'll be scrambling to do this sometime over the weekend. For those that don't know, half of my work week is Friday/Saturday nights so I don't have much free time until football Sunday.
Right now I'm just typing away, making sure I have enough content so as not to spoil anything for anyone if they click here first. Really though, my warning above should be sufficient so I think I'll stop dicking around now...
We are down to 2 undefeated teams as Georgia upset New Orleans 6-5 on a walk off HR. Congrats to San Antonio and Pittsburgh for beating everyone on your schedules so far. Not only are your teams 6-0, they also have the best point differentials in the league. Pittsburgh is +214 while San Antonio are +146. Only 5 other teams in the league have even scored 146 or more let alone outscore their opponents by such a large margin.
Georgia 6 New Orleans 5Games like this are why you stay away from divisional games in survivor pools as a lot of people would have been eliminated off this result. One week after shutting down the high octane San Jose passing attack, the VooDoo were Forced into 15 punts today. Georgia's offense was just as ineffective as both teams combined for 326 yards, 7 sacks, 3 turnovers and 0/3 in the red zone with 3 FGs.
New Orleans sacked Adam Patrick 5 times, including once for a safety to get the scoring started. They added a FG in the 2nd for a 5-0 lead they took into the 3rd qtr. Georgia got a couple of second half FGs to win the game 6-5.
San Antonio 41 Michigan 10Glenn Graham ran for 157 yards and a TD, adding another 37 yards and catching one of 3 George Warner TD passes. The Gunslingers defense allowed only 81 total yards, getting 9 sacks, an INT and allowing 0/12 on 3rd down. All told, San Antonio ran for 242 yards and passed for 228 after sacks, yet another balanced attack. It's gonna be hard to beat the Gunslingers if they keep playing like this.
Pittsburgh 40 Denver 3I might just start copying and pasting the Pittsburgh writeups, only editing stat lines and team names. Every week it's the same, Darrell Harrington completed 25/36, 288 yards, 5 TDs and an INT. Patrick Howard caught 9 for 142 yards and 3 TDs while Felix Vaughn ran for 118. The Maulers defense allowed just 90 yards, had 5 sacks including one for a safety and they forced a pair of turnovers. You get the picture, Pittsburgh is good.
Now let's see how the other division leaders fared.
San Jose 26 Oklahoma 10San Jose and Larry Henderson rebounded from last week's debacle by getting an important win over Oklahoma. As per usual with Henderson, he completed 42/63, 525 yards, 3 TDs, 4 INTs, and 5 sacks. San Jose was 5/8 on 4th down and when Oklahoma had the ball they couldn't run. The Outlaws finished with 8 yards on 12 carries and Settles was intercepted 3 times as a result.
San Jose got out to a 16-0 first half lead and led 26-3 after 3 so today, the sacks and turnovers did not hurt. Arthur Reina caught 9 for 131 yards for Oklahoma while San Jose had 3 top the century mark. Last year, team owner Smirt211 famously said "Jacob Newman sucks" right before Newman went on a run of stat stuffing/record setting. They sold T shirts and everything, but with the addition of Lee Ramos and Lynn McLaurin, Newman has been reduced to third fiddle, not even second fiddle. Today though, Newman led the way with 8 catches, 153 yards and a TD. Lee Ramos caught 14 for 139 and a score while Wanda Sykes' cousin Donald caught 7 for 119.
Arizona 6 Oakland 3This looks like a Diamondbacks score, thanks to them btw for beating the Dodgers in the MLB playoffs. Defense ruled the day in this game as Oakland sacked Curtis Kim 7 times and intercepted him once while Arizona forced Andy Fulkerson into a 2 INT day, sacking him 4 times and allowing only 159 yards and 3/14 on 3rd down. Patrick McManus caught 10 for 115 yards and Arizona won the FG kicking contest 2-1.
Portland 27 Southern California 0The Storm defense pitched a shutout, allowing just 150 yards and getting 5 sacks and an INT to gain a share of 1st place thanks to the Oakland loss. Raymond Oswalt completed 22/29 for 236 yards, with Robert Settle catching 5 for 109 yards and a TD. Michael Carter had 4 sacks for the second straight week.
Chicago 20 Cleveland 10As a whole, the Midwest is not having a good season as they are just 6-18 overall, 3-15 outside of division play. Chicago's win today puts them at .500 with a 3-3 record, which is good for a 2 game lead on the division. Brian Smith had 136 combined yards, getting 82 and a TD on the ground to lead the Blitz offense. Not many passes hit the ground as both QBs combine to complete 50/61 for 362 yards.
Jacksonville 27 Shreveport 13The whole Southeast is tight but after today's win, the Bulls are in sole possession of first place. Jackie Huhn ran for 90 yards and a TD to lead the offense while the defense bent but didn't break. William Caswell caught 8 for 147 yards in a losing effort.
Birmingham 35 Florida 9Russell Gall completed 19/23, 261 yards and 5 TDs to lead the Stallions to victory. Gary May caught 3 of those scores among his 6 for 163 yards. Arnold Griego caught the other 2 and Philip Snyder just missed a 100 yard game, gaining 99 on the ground. The Birmingham defense put out the Blazers offense, holding them to 150 yards while getting 3 sacks and an INT.
Philadelphia 32 Memphis 16This game was a tight, back and forth affair until the 4th qtr when Jerry Parker had another meltdown. Philadelphia took an early 7-0 lead on a Frederick Martin 12 yard TD run before Memphis scored 10 straight to take the lead. Philadelphia would sandwich a Memphis TD/missed XP with a pair of FGs to give us a halftime score of 16-13 Memphis.
Joel Jasso had a 53 yard TD pass early in the 3rd and led a pair of FG drives early in the 4th for a 26-16 lead. Jerry Parker has had 4th qtr meltdowns before and during the one today, he threw INTs on 3 consecutive 4th qtr drives leading to a pair of Bell FGs to seal the game for Philadelphia.
