I have a possible solution, one that covers the reason for the punt block exploit in the first place...speed.

Possible new rule: LB will be allowed anywhere on the punt block team but in order to play on the front 4, their speed needs to be below 80.

I really hope this is acceptable to everyone. My only concern is having too many punt blocks...some are ok, even normal, but if we allow speedy LB to play on the front 4, I think we will have too many. The speed restrictions only apply to those on the front 4, and only LB. If you have a DE with 80+ speed, as long as he is the proper weight (265 +) he can play anywhere. Speedy LB can still play any of the other 7 spots on the punt return team.

I think this is the least restrictive rule possible while still eliminating the punt block exploit. You can still use LB, just watch their speed.

What if AI substitutes an illegal player in?

I likely won't notice unless that player actually blocks a punt for a TD, and if they do, I'll send you a PM asking you to adjust your depth chart.

I would prefer a weight rule for LBs -> 237 lbs minimum and then speed is not the overwhelming factor.

It sort of already is a rule, albeit unwritten. Every LB in the league weighs at least 237 except Memphis has a 10 year vet at 229 and New York has a 3rd year LB at 211.

Before you joined the league, we had some heated debates about rosters. The McKeon rule, where all DL must weigh at least 265, was put in place because Mckeon was a speedy LB who played DL and amassed over 100 sacks in 1 season.

Later, Smirt's roster was an issue because he made most everyone on defense a DB and all skill players WR. He is no longer here in part because of that and we are no longer on speaking terms.

Actually the guy who blocked the punt in question only weighs 233. I probably missed a few LB weighing between 230-236, I quickly skimmed rosters and I don't have my glasses on. That being said, 4 pounds isn't much of a difference and the speed is what makes this possible

Don't forget, this guy is a rookie. He will be at 237 lbs latest in game 3.

OK, but he is still too fast and light to be on the front 4. Once he gains the 4 pounds, his speed will either stay 85 or go down to 84

My depth chart reflects how I always wanted the rule a lot better than my typed rules post.

I have all my DL listed first with all my LB at the bottom. Reno Raines is my only LB over 80 speed, so I should probably put him lower, but this is generally how I would prefer it.

This less than 80 speed rule only applies to the front 4. Notice how the first 4 names on my depth chart list match up with the front 4 of my punt block team as shown on overrides. The other 7 wing positions/returner can be any position, any speed.
