I'm writing the blog when I came across a punt block for a TD by a fast (87 speed) LB. According to the punt block rule as written, it's not a violation but I have doubts this is in the spirit of the rule.

So much was going on in my life when the rule was written that I may not have written it correctly by not including LB that weren't allowed on the line. Seth is already on record that he will play up to the rules, so it seems I need legal help to write our custom rules to avoid loopholes.

How do you all feel about an 87 speed LB trying to block punts?

This is the rule I've been using in my leagues which meshes with the other rule about the defensive line.


RULE #1 PUNT BLOCKS

Only players weighting 255 lbs may play ST RUSHER in the depth chart. Injury/depth exception. Anyone under 255 used at ST rusher must be under 80 speed.

RULE #2 DEFENSIVE LINE

Only players weighting 255 may play the defensive line. If due to injury a player weighting less then 255 pounds needs to be in the depth chart...their speed MUST BE under 80.

That's what I intended but not what is written.

I've seen reference to the "McKeon Rule", but haven't actually seen what is is.

Player at LB weights almost never make it to the punter unless its a bad Punter. I always have my LBs at STRusher when I am allowed to and I allways try to have the fastest LB possible

how many blocked punts have you seen from LBs? They are not an issue and LBs play on special teams on the line in the NFL

Curious about the punt block issue.

Is the issue related to fast rushers, or poor blocking?
Example: can a fast rusher block the punt regardless of how good the blocker is, or are there no blockers against the rusher?

Still trying to get caught up on everything that's changed since I've been gone.

Basically it's a speed exploit, by using fast, light players to block punts. Some teams were blocking multiple punts every game in it's heyday.

People were doing this intentionally?

Seems like poor sportsmanship to me, regardless of any "rules" or not. This type of thing is the #1 reason I left MFN in the first place.
