Bottom line is this

We are losing owners left and right and if you read the forums, its directly related to the direction 4.4 and 4.5 has taken the game.

Plus plenty of leagues are drying up because owners are cutting back on teams owned or quiting all together.

That was also one of the main focuses of my post. I love this sim/game and I want it to prosper. If I had the time and energy, I wont gather all the links to all the threads and post about owners quitting but honestly I am not up to the task

Obviously I hit some sort of nerve here. All I said was Roster Only wasnt for me because scoring is low. You told me to check out NFL Extreme because it isnt like that.

I did and scoring is way low, stats prove it. Im not saying, Roster only sucks, dont play it. I clearly stated its not for me.....period.

Honestly it has nothing to do with what I posted really. If I offended you in some way, it was not my intention.

The point of my post was about new versions being beta tested longer before release....thats all. Im glad you enjoy that league. I want everyone to enjoy every league. I cant play this game alone. I need other owners and just dont like losing them.

I'm saying roster only sucks....huge nothing burger in my opinion.

No matter how you want to hash this out, Going back to 0.4.3 is not the answer.
Progress has been made whether you like it or not. Defenses are playing better coverage than they ever have before. The offense is behind right now.
I know 0.4.6 is going to continue to focus on the passing game. I'm fairly certain that 0.4.6 will not be rushed out to all leagues because of what happened after 0.4.3. I hope that is the case.
As for people leaving the game, it happens. People become frustrated or just need breaks.

While I've yet to see 4.5 beyond a couple of pre-season games, passing feels a little better than last year, but the game is still not quite razzle-dazzle enough it terms of remarkable performances. That's fine, it's work in progress.

That said, maybe the bleeding-edge league could be used as an approval system for whether the next iteration gets global release or not? If it's felt to be a step backward, maybe it's held for further review, thereby giving the rest of us an additional season to try and adapt to the previous iteration.

The problem there is that if the existing version isn't much fun to see in action (400 combined yards across both teams is a bit of a snoozefest) we'll have difficulty hanging onto owners.

There's no simple solution, especially with a full season between one version and the next. Overall the game is solid and just requires a minor tweak or two to the way it runs to add a little more excitement into watching a match.

It's the 1977 NFL, low-scoring field-goal contests.

I'm sure JDB is doing his best to make this game as close to realistic as possible.

I'm thinking one of the main issues, is that there's just ONE stat for pass accuracy. Another guess, is that it takes time to figure out and adjust whatever strings figure out, how big a chance you have to make the throw.

100% accuracy, in my world, just means that if you stand still, 10-15 yards from your target, you'll always hit that target. Then you add the pressure from playing in a game, a moving target, that vision might be blocked and that the distance can be 3, 7 or 25 yards. Every inch should technically make a difference and both arm strength, release and accuracy should make up the succes of the throw.

You're all saying 4.4 is a bad engine and granted I can't say I like it more or less than another version, as it's the only one I've tried - but personally, I like it. Dump offs to the RB is overrepresented, but apart from that it seems fine to me. My WR's and TE have a fair share of targets and receptions and most yards, the competion rate might be a bit high, but I guess it has to be, to offset not having access to long passes if you want to keep turnovers down. It's a natural cause and doesn't mean anything's wrong with the game, apart from the long pass mechanics and the progression mechanics, leading to WAY too many passes to the RB, except when he's wide open and the best option, then QB will take a sack. ;-)

I'm sure JDB is doing his very best to make this game as good as possible and if we're down to bitching about how we're scoring 10 points per game instead of 30, then it's a minor issue overall.

I don't disagree that it should be higher, both for the sake of being more realistic, but also because it's more entertaining when the score goes back and forth - but I'd quit faster on this game if every game finished 48-67 than if every game finishes 6-9.

The issues with 4.5 aren't with pass accuracy. Or there is a problem with accuracy, but it's not necessarily what people have been thinking.

Issues with 4.5 as I understand them are a combination of pass speed, DB speed while the ball is in the air, Bump & Run defense, and substitute QB nerfing.

A. Pass speeds are slow relative to the action, especially as the QB gets fatigued.
B. Defenders react too quickly and run too fast, relative to pass release and speed. This means that an "open" receiver often has 3-5 defenders on top of him by the time the ball gets there for a medium or long pass.
C. Bump and Run defense has been buffed, it's effective now. That means that a receiver will often not be in a position to catch an accurate pass (but defenders will be there). Now there is a correlation . . . ACCURACY = INTERCEPTIONS
D. This can't be solved by substituting a "fresh arm". QBs come in "cold off the bench" i.e. without a pulse. They will miss most or all of their first 6-10 passes and very likely throw an additional interception or two while they're warming up.

The best solutions I've found,

A. Going to the ground, playing "army ball"
B. Changing player weights to reflect the decreased value of accuracy, and the increased value of B & R.
C. Dissecting games from Beta and Rivals, looking for the exploit plays that the old vets still use effectively.
D. Spending less time watching my games, and more time griping on the forums.

I haven't quit any leagues, I really do enjoy this game too much for that. Thank you, jdb <-- I know you don't hear that enough.

I'm just not customizing any more teams pending . . .

Pass accuracy causes more interceptions at the moment? Wow, that's counter-intuitive.

It would be if it be true. But it's nonsense.

Counterexample:

Pass Accuracy 100 -> https://ncaa.myfootballnow.com/player/380

301 pass attempts (from that 126 medium & 12 long) in 10 games and only 4 interceptions.

Side info: 3 picks happened on short passes, 1 on a long pass...

You do realize that league is only in the second season? You haven't exactly been competing against defenses with a high level of player skill.

Thank you for the anecdote. Anyone in that situation, please disregard my previous post.
