Gold missed multiple opportunities to capitalize, turning the ball over with three interceptions thrown by Gold QB Hale Merrie.
The Invaders extended their lead further before halftime with a 38-yard field goal from Smith, making the score 16-6. Gold narrowed the gap with a touchdown reception by Donald Chenard from Merrie midway through the second quarter, trimming it to 16-13. Both teams added no points before the half concluded.
