ORLANDO – The Renegades improved to 2-0 on the season with a commanding 74-6 victory over the Stallions on Sunday. Coach Rueben Mahaffey’s squad dominated on both sides of the ball, capitalizing on special teams plays and efficient offense to hand the Stallions their first home loss of the year.

The scoring started early with a 25-yard field goal by Renegades kicker Gregg Zavala at 10:56 in the first quarter. The Renegades forced multiple turnovers in the opening quarter, including a punt block and recovery by James Dunbar at the Stallions’ 22-yard line, which set the tone for the night. John Rice connected with Bill Minks for two early touchdown passes, and Zavala added the extra points to push the Renegades to a 17-0 lead within the first six minutes of play.

Stallions quarterback Mike Hunt struggled, completing 28 of 57 passes for 256 yards but throwing three interceptions. The Renegades secondary picked off the Stallions four times overall, including an interception by Buddy Meyer deep in Stallions territory. Stallions’ rushing was nearly non-existent, finishing with negative 4 yards on 13 carries.

Renegades running backs Bill Minks and George Porter powered the ground game, rushing for 96 and 86 yards respectively. Minks also had a productive night receiving with 42 yards and 3 touchdown catches, while Porter added a receiving touchdown. Fullback Erich Diaz contributed a receiving touchdown as well, rounding out a balanced offensive performance. Quarterback John Rice finished with 238 passing yards and 2 passing touchdowns.

Special teams again proved decisive in the second quarter. James Dunbar blocked three punts throughout the game, recovering two for touchdowns. Kickoff specialist Gregg Zavala was perfect on four field goal attempts, including a 46-yard kick in the first quarter.

Defensively, the Renegades recorded three sacks and three fumble recoveries to complement their turnovers gained. Stallions kicker Jeffrey Long was perfect on his two field goal attempts but could not offset the defensive and special teams struggles.

With this win, the Renegades sit atop the division standings at 2-0 and 0-0 in division play, holding a substantial points-for advantage of 90 to 16 over opponents after two weeks. The Stallions fall to 1-1, with concerns mounting due to their 36 points scored against 80 points allowed.

Coach Rueben Mahaffey’s team showed a complete game on both sides of the ball and special teams to secure a statement victory on the road, setting a strong foundation for the rest of their season.
