The Orlando Renegades defeated the Force 30-13 at home in Week 15 of the 2023 regular season. The win extends Orlando’s winning streak to nine games and cements the Renegades as division champions with a 13-1-1 record. Both clubs had already clinched their divisions before kickoff.

Orlando struck first with a 21-yard touchdown pass from quarterback John Rice to wide receiver Charles Button at 4:10 in the first quarter. The Renegades converted the extra point, taking a 7-0 lead. However, the Force responded quickly with a 104-yard kickoff return touchdown by Frank Whiting, leveling the score 7-7 after a successful extra point at 4:04.

The Force took their first lead of the game at 1:52 in the first quarter on a 46-yard field goal by Donald Doubledoink. But the Renegades regained the advantage early in the second quarter with a short 3-yard rushing touchdown by running back Bill Minks, followed by a Gregg Zavala extra point to go up 14-10. Zavala later hit a 40-yard field goal as the half closed to extend the lead to 17-10.

Offensively, John Rice completed 30 of 46 passes for 336 yards and two touchdowns while adding 37 rushing yards. Charles Button was Rice’s primary target, catching nine passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns. Bill Minks contributed on the ground with 55 rushing yards and a touchdown and added 30 receiving yards.

Defensively, Orlando forced three interceptions and a forced fumble recovered by Robert Phillip. The Renegades' linebackers were active, with Buddy Meyer securing two interceptions and Adam Levy picking off one pass.

The Force’s offense struggled to gain ground, finishing with just 104 passing yards and negative 11 rushing yards. George Coulter, the Force quarterback, was intercepted three times and did not throw for any touchdowns. They managed only two field goals on five penalty flags totaling 35 yards.

In the second half, Orland kept steady control. Greg Zavala added two more field goals, one from 26 yards in the third quarter and another from 41 yards in the fourth. Rice connected with Button again for a 13-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter, which extended the lead to 27-13.

Despite a late Force drive, they failed to convert a critical interception thrown by Coulter in the final moments, sealing the victory for Orlando. The Renegades' disciplined approach on offense and opportunistic defense proved decisive.

With the victory, Head Coach Rueben Mahaffey’s squad remains atop their division with a 6-0 divisional record. The Force fall to 12-4 overall. Orlando now prepares for the closing stretch of the regular season with the division crown secured.

The Renegades will look to carry this momentum forward as they seek home-field advantage heading into the postseason.
