The San Jose SaberCats delivered a commanding performance against the Houston Gamblers on Sunday, winning 38-3 in a Week 14 regular season contest. With the victory, the SaberCats improve to 12-2 and have clinched their division, while the Gamblers fall to 0-14, extending their losing streak.

The game began with an immediate offensive surge from San Jose. Just over nine minutes into the opening quarter, Joe Tedder powered through for a 21-yard touchdown run, giving the SaberCats a quick 6-0 lead. Felipe Shea’s successful 2-yard conversion run afterward pushed the lead to 8-0. Later in the first quarter, Shea again found the end zone on an 11-yard run, followed by William Allshouse’s two-yard conversion run, resulting in a 16-0 lead inside the first six minutes.

Houston's offense struggled early, with Eduardo Hooker fumbling a snap which was recovered by James Hamilton of the SaberCats, putting further pressure on the home team. San Jose capitalized on turnovers and continued to impose their ground game. Tedder added another long touchdown run of 39 yards in the second quarter, extending the lead to 22-0. Allshouse followed with a successful conversion run, pushing the score to 24-0.

Houston managed their lone points on a Brian Bennett 32-yard field goal near the end of the second quarter after forcing a SaberCats fumble. That made the score 24-3 heading into halftime.

The SaberCats’ rushing attack dominated throughout, accumulating 411 yards on 66 carries. Joe Tedder led the charge with 108 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Daryl Scott contributed 97 rushing yards, while William Allshouse added 90, and Sean Sheffield gained 38 yards with one rushing touchdown. Felipe Shea also added a rushing touchdown.

San Jose’s defensive unit was formidable, recording five sacks and recovering a fumble, while limiting Houston's passing game to just 79 yards and zero touchdowns. Houston managed only 13 rushing yards on 14 carries.

San Jose extended their lead in the fourth quarter with a pair of field goals from Ken Bench and a touchdown run by Sean Sheffield. Bench’s two field goals accounted for six points, while Sheffield scored on an 8-yard run with an additional 2-yard conversion run, increasing the lead to 35-3 before the game’s final minutes.

Coach James Bond’s SaberCats were efficient on third down, converting 7 of 13 attempts and scoring touchdowns on three of five red zone visits. The Gamblers struggled with just one third down conversion on 13 attempts and failed to produce any red zone touchdowns across a single visit.

The loss leaves Houston winless and eliminated from playoff contention. San Jose, meanwhile, remains firmly atop the division and heads into the final weeks of the regular season with momentum.
