The Generals secured a commanding 36-10 victory over the Gunslingers on Sunday at home, cementing their status as one of the league’s most efficient offenses this season. By converting 19 of 25 passing attempts for 221 yards and two touchdowns, complemented by a punishing rushing attack that gained 238 yards on 44 carries, the Generals showcased balanced dominance under the guidance of head coach Travis Washington.
The game's numerical story began with the Gunslingers' early 57-yard field goal by Sean Griffin, giving them an opening 3-0 lead. However, that would be their only scoring until the fourth quarter, as the Generals quickly took control. Mike Nugent’s precision kicking contributed all nine of his field goal attempts this season; today he was perfect, going three-for-three with kicks covering 32, 54, and 29 yards.
Quarterback Zachary McClure orchestrated two crucial touchdown drives, throwing for 221 yards overall, including touchdown passes to Slippin Jimmy McGill and Keith Byars. McGill’s touchdown came on a short eight-yard pass midway through the second quarter, nudging the Generals ahead 9-3 before Nugent’s extra point. Byars added an 8-yard touchdown reception near halftime, highlighting his versatile role as he also rushed for 86 yards and a touchdown.
The Generals’ rushing attack emphasized consistency and depth. Beyond Byars, Spencer Steer’s 76-yard rushing effort culminated in a 39-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter, extending the lead to 30-3. Reggie Monk also contributed 59 rushing yards and a receiving touchdown, underscoring the team’s multiple offensive weapons. In total, the ground game accounted for two touchdowns and an impressive 238 yards, a key factor in controlling time of possession and limiting the Gunslingers’ opportunities.
Defensively, the Generals held the Gunslingers to just 87 passing yards and 77 rushing yards, with the visitors’ quarterback Ronald Schuler managing only one touchdown and throwing an interception. While the Generals recorded just one sack, their defense forced a turnover late in the game and limited third-down opportunities effectively—though both teams registered no third-down conversions. The Generals also managed to avoid costly penalties, with only six infractions for 40 yards, maintaining disciplined play throughout.
After starting the game with a deficit, the Generals rallied with two second-quarter touchdowns and three field goals, building a 23-3 lead entering the fourth quarter. The Gunslingers’ lone touchdown came late, but it was too little too late to mount any serious comeback.
Standout receiver Emeka Egbuka seized the spotlight with 101 receiving yards, providing a reliable target in critical situations. The Generals’ offense scored 36 points using a methodical approach shaped by strong execution in both the air and on the ground, continuing a trend this season where they average nearly 27 points per game while limiting opponents to just under 10 points.
With the win, the Generals improve to 8-2-1 overall and 3-1 in the division, extending their winning streak to three games and reinforcing their position as the second-place team fighting for a playoff position. The Gunslingers drop to 2-9 and face ongoing challenges under Damian Long’s leadership.
Travis Washington’s squad will look to build on this statistical blueprint as the season progresses, optimizing efficiency metrics that have served them well. This performance signals the Generals are not only prepared offensively but also disciplined defensively, setting a high standard for the remainder of the regular season.
