The Generals continued their strong start to the 2023 season with a 30-10 home victory over the struggling VooDoo in Week 3 of the regular season. Under head coach Travis Washington, Piscataway's Generals advanced to a 2-1 record and maintained first place in their division with a 1-0 mark. The VooDoo fell to 0-3 and remain last in the division.

The Generals used a balanced attack to control the game, highlighted by a dominant rushing performance. Running backs Keith Byars and Jeremy Standish combined for 183 rushing yards. Byars rushed for 93 yards and added 38 receiving yards, while Standish contributed 90 yards on the ground along with two receiving touchdowns.

The scoring opened early in the first quarter when Standish punched in a 12-yard touchdown run just under three minutes into the game. Mike Nugent’s extra point gave the Generals a 7-0 lead. Nugent later added three field goals from 33, and two other attempts completing a perfect night on placekicking.

Quarterback Zachary McClure passed for 102 yards, completing 15 of 24 attempts, and rushed for 15 yards. McClure threw no touchdown passes but was intercepted twice during the matchup. The interceptions, however, did not hinder the Generals’ offensive cadence.

The defense played a crucial role, recovering two fumbles and registering two interceptions. Jimmy Collins led the defensive effort with one sack and a forced fumble, contributing to a stout defensive unit that held the VooDoo to just 78 passing yards and 77 rushing yards.

The VooDoo managed a lone touchdown in the third quarter on a 5-yard run by Chad Geist and a field goal from Michael Thomas. Clarence Zepeda, the VooDoo quarterback, finished with 78 passing yards and one interception.

Penalties were relatively low for both teams, with the Generals committing four for 38 yards and the VooDoo three for 22 yards. Notably, the Generals did not face any third-down conversion attempts, indicating effective drives or punts throughout the game.

With this win, the Generals remain atop their division and have outscored opponents 63-23 over three games so far this season. The VooDoo continue to search for their first win as their struggles persist.

The Generals will look to build on this momentum as they prepare for their next divisional game. Coach Travis Washington will likely emphasize maintaining ball control and defensive discipline moving forward to sustain their winning trajectory.
