San Jose SaberCats opened their 2022 pre-season schedule with a commanding 68-0 victory over the visiting Stallions on August 13. Led by head coach Jose Davison, the SaberCats controlled the game from start to finish, posting a shutout win at home.

The SaberCats set the tone early in the first quarter with a rushing touchdown by wide receiver Joe Tedder at 5:07. Special teams contributed significantly when Tony Rivers blocked a Stallions punt at 2:22, leading to a touchdown recovery by Carter Bruce and extending the lead to 12-0.

Quarterback James Wright contributed with key completions including a touchdown pass to Eric Rodriguez in the second quarter. Wright finished the game completing 6 of 11 passes for 40 yards, throwing one touchdown and one interception.

SaberCats' rushing attack was dominant, accumulating 363 yards on 68 carries. Joe Tedder led the charge with 118 rushing yards and 3 rushing touchdowns, also adding 2 receiving touchdowns. Daryl Scott added 108 rushing yards and a receiving touchdown, while Dave The Cobra Parker contributed 71 rushing yards plus 2 receiving touchdowns. Eric Rodriguez also scored on both the ground and through the air.

The SaberCats defense was equally effective, forcing multiple turnovers including a punt block resulting in a touchdown and an interception by Randall Thiele. Safety Lewis Veliz forced a fumble that contributed to the team's defensive dominance.

Stallions quarterback Mike Hunt struggled with two interceptions, completing 19 of 38 passes for 80 yards with no touchdowns. Backup quarterback Edmund Hayden added 31 passing yards but threw three interceptions. Stallions’ rushing was limited to 36 yards on 17 carries, and they were unable to convert any scoring opportunities throughout the game.

The SaberCats' special teams also contributed significantly with kicker Frank Olmeda making 2 of 3 field-goal attempts.

Coach Jose Davison’s squad capitalized on turnovers and controlled the clock effectively with a well-balanced offensive attack. The team showed resilience and cohesion, shutting out the Stallions and setting a strong tone for the remainder of the pre-season.
