The Force defeated the Gold 23-6 in World Bowl XLVI on Sunday, January 23, 2022, at Gold's home field. The game marked a critical elimination matchup in the championship series.
Force kicker Donald Doubledoink opened the scoring with a 53-yard field goal less than five minutes into the game. Gold responded with a 35-yard field goal from Allan Hawk at 3:34 of the first quarter, tying the score at 3-3.
Doubledoink added another field goal early in the second quarter, a 48-yarder that put the Force ahead 6-3.
Late in the second quarter, Force quarterback George Coulter connected with wide receiver Brett Cartwright on a 23-yard touchdown pass. Doubledoink's successful extra point increased the lead to 13-3 going into halftime.
In the third quarter, Allan Hawk made a 47-yard field goal to narrow the gap to 13-6. However, the Gold offense could not generate further scoring opportunities.
The Force's defense dominated, recording nine sacks and forcing one fumble, recovered by linebacker Gregory Harger. The Gold's quarterbacks, led by Barton McDonnell, completed 16 of 35 passes for 162 yards but threw two interceptions. The Force's defense also did not allow a single touchdown.
Offensively, the Force accumulated 270 passing yards on 29 completions from Coulter, who threw one touchdown and was intercepted twice. Xavier Restrepo led the receiving corps with 95 yards, followed by tight end Donald Gutierrez with 79 yards. Wide receiver William Sneed added a touchdown reception and 24 yards.
The Force also gained an edge on special teams. Punter John Hill frequently pinned the Gold offense deep, highlighting several punts over 45 yards and fair catches.
Penalty discipline favored the Force as well, with only three penalties for 21 yards compared to the Gold's seven penalties for 42 yards.
Head Coach Jeremy Ramirez’s team showed balanced efficiency and strong defensive play, securing the 17-point margin without resorting to red zone touchdowns.
The Force’s victory advances them deeper into the playoffs, as the game was an elimination contest for World Bowl XLVI. Meanwhile, the Gold will look to regroup after their first playoff loss of the season.
