The Piscataway Generals defeated the Wranglers 16-9 on the road Sunday, improving their record to 10-3 and clinching a playoff berth in the 2022 regular season Week 13.
Generals head coach Travis Washington saw his team take an early lead with kicker Mike Nugent scoring two field goals in the first quarter — a 51-yarder and a 55-yarder — to put the team up 6-0. Nugent added a third field goal later in the game, finishing 3 for 4 on field goal attempts.
The Wranglers responded in the second quarter with a 41-yard touchdown pass from quarterback David Fields to William Tanner. However, the Wranglers missed the extra point, keeping their score at 6. Tanner was the team's primary offensive threat, finishing with 41 receiving yards and one rushing touchdown.
The Generals got on the board again in the second quarter with a touchdown pass from quarterback Zachary McClure to wide receiver Marco Roberts, followed by a successful extra point from Nugent to extend the lead to 13-6. McClure completed 19 of 23 passes for 161 yards, with one touchdown and one interception. Roberts contributed 11 receiving yards and one rushing touchdown.
Rushing was a key component for the Generals as running back Gregory Davis tallied 79 yards on the ground along with an additional 7 receiving yards, contributing to the team's balanced attack. Overall, the Generals rushed 39 times for 152 yards and one touchdown.
The defensive unit for the Generals limited the Wranglers to just 80 passing yards and 117 rushing yards. Wranglers quarterback David Fields completed 10 of 23 passes with one touchdown and one interception. The Generals defense recorded one sack and one interception.
The Wranglers struggled offensively, failing to convert on third downs and red zone opportunities, and recorded two penalties for 15 yards. The Generals committed three penalties for 20 yards but maintained defensive pressure throughout.
In the final moments, the Generals preserved their lead through effective punting by Craig Concepcion and solid defensive stands. The game featured multiple fumble recoveries, including one by the Generals' Spencer Steer following a Larry Strobel fumble.
With this win, Piscataway's Generals continue to lead their division at 4-0 and hold the top spot overall. The Wranglers, coached by Scott Carraway, drop to 3-10, already eliminated from playoff contention with a four-game losing streak.
The Generals will look to build on this victory as they prepare for the upcoming postseason run.
