Day 3 picks for 1975

Pick 3.18 Rod Serling - Mr. Twilight Zone spent a lot of time in the Dayton area, attending Antioch College and working for local radio before his fame.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rod_Serling

Pick 4.17 Tony Perez - Pete Rose may have been MVP of the 1975 World Series, but he's a **** so I'm going with Tony Perez. Big Doggie had several big hits in that W.S. and was a key cog in The Big Red Machine. When he was traded, the machine started to breakdown.

Day 4 picks...getting to the point where it's questionable at best they make the team, but these guys were born in 1975.

Pick 5.18 Chris Moneymaker - Mr. Average Joe wins the first big World Series of Poker and becomes a household name. I know about the older WSOP events, Moneymaker just got lucky in winning a huge televised event. He helped put poker on the map and inspired lots of people, myself included, to play online poker.

Pick 6.17 Tiger Woods - At one point I was a fan of Tiger Woods before we all found out what he likes to do with his "woods". Now he's a caricature of himself, and deserving of a 6th round name that might have a permanent spot on the free agent list.

My last pick was made while at work so I didn't have time to rename him until now. Some years I may not rename all of my picks, especially if I feel they won't make the team.

I doubt this guy makes the final 53 but I'm gonna name him anyway.

Around the turn of the century I shared a 2 bedroom apartment with a roommate who liked NASCAR. I didn't, though I never gave it much chance until this point of my life. It was ok for a bit but rather boring. One thing I did like though was the post race interviews and after one race, this guy was going off on Greg Biffle. In the process of explaining the racing deal, he dropped this gem of a one liner that for some reason I will never forget..."Greg Biffle is an idiot, everybody knows that."

Wow, I thought that kind of trash talk was just for WWE, but I loved it. Which driver said that?

Pick 7.18 Kevin Harvick - We're going to have to do something about that uniform before we start full contact drills. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Harvick

It's 1976 in the USFL/WFL and it's the first year of the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Seattle Seahawks.

Pick 1.27 Leroy Selmon TE - Lee Roy Selmon was the first ever Buccaneer, selected 1st overall in the 1976 expansion draft. He was an awesome DE irl but I didn't want to use this name on a 7th round pick, so he's a TE in MFN.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_Roy_Selmon

Pick 2.27 Steve Niehaus C - Niehaus played DT irl and was Seattle's 1st ever player. Just like Selmon, I named him a center here due to not drafting a DL until late.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Niehaus

Pick 3.27 Steve Jobs WR - Pretty much everyone knows who Steve Jobs is, and Apple was launched in 1976.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Jobs

Pick 4.27 David Berkowitz LT - I was 7 years old in 1976 and I vividly remember seeing the Son of Sam stuff on the news often. David Berkowitz was his name, and killing was his game, though I'll settle for not letting Fluty get killed.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Berkowitz

Pick 5.27 Pat Tillman SS - Tillman was born in 1976 and I wanted to keep him as a DB, otherwise he'd have already been named above.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pat_Tillman

Pick 6.27 Fred Savage CB - The Wonder Years actor was born in 1976. Trump is trying to get him to bring Winnie Cooper along because he wants to grab her by the...kitty?

Anyway, Savage is hoping to make the team as a CB.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Savage

Pick 7.27 Ryan Leaf SLB - Born in 1976, Leaf will try to revive his football career as a LB in MFN. I hope there are no relapses in his future.

We're in the 1977 draft now, so the names will reflect about the year I was 8 years old.

Pick 1.17 Elvis Presley RT The Elvis Presley I grew up with was the old fat one as I only saw skinny Elvis in old movies. Rumor has it he faked his own death and was seen in fast food joints across America amid many rumors. http://www.nme.com/blogs/nme-blogs/weirdest-elvis-presley-sightings-conspiracy-2125270-2125270

In the world of MFN, Elvis stayed alive, eating and getting huge. He's 6'1" 324 lbs and hopefully he's the RT I've been looking for.

I forgot to mention Elvis died in 1977, but everyone probably already knew that. For my second pick, I'll use the name of someone born in 1977.

Pick 2.16 Dustin Diamond MLB Diamond is better known as Screech from Saved By The Bell. He's a LB coming out of Kentucky but could play some DE as a pro. He has some volatility but a positive camp will have Diamond help the Generals defense make opposing offenses screech to a halt. A negative camp will mean he's just a Combine All Star.

Pick 3.15 LT John Cena The muscular professional wrestler born in 1977 is now a LT. At 6'5" 324, he's a mountain of a man. Has high volatility as one might expect out of a wrestler but if it's positive, he could be the other bookend of my OL for years along with Elvis.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Cena

Pick 4.14 DT Roy Sullivan Looking up facts about 1977 I came across Roy Sullivan. He was struck by lightning 7 times and survived them all, the last in 1977. The name fits as this DT with 100 volatility could wildly swing up or down, and I'm hoping for lightning in a bottle.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_Sullivan

Pick 5.13 SS Antoine Winfield Drafted as a CB out of Oklahoma? (MFN version Oklahoma but a real life Ohio State Buckeye) he will be moved to safety. His skills translate more like a LB but at just 192 lbs, he's just too small.

The real Antoine Winfield was born in 1977. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antoine_Winfield

Pick 6.17 CB Gary Gilmore Gilmore comes in with 96 volatility but his skill ceilings are so low, he is doubtful to make the team even if he booms. I had 61 players post draft and someone had to go. It came down to Gilmore or the next pick, Tony Manero.

One thing I have always remembered about 1977 was the execution of Gary Gilmore. It made quite an impression on little me. I picked the name Gilmore for this player because I cut him, killing his Generals career. Get it? LOL.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Gilmore

Pick 7.16 K Tony Manero At the end of 1977 some dancing movie came out that made a few waves, Saturday Night Fever. That was the peak of the short lived disco era and the movie starred John Travolta as Tony Manero.

I almost cut Manero instead of Gilmore, but Manero has a chance to take the kicking job.

1978 Name Changes

Ah, 1978. What I remember most is the blizzard, it was like minus 100, snow everywhere and our power went out.

Pick 1.25 #85 WR Chad Ochocinco Everyone's favorite #85, the artist formerly known as Chad Johnson, was born in 1978. I used to have Bengals season tickets back when he was dancing in end zones and making DB lists and thought he was funny at first. Eventually his act wore thin with me and was glad to see him go. Enough time has passed and enough jerks have burst onto the scene since he left that he doesn't irritate me anymore.

No link provided for him, everyone here should already know about Ochocinco. OMG, this pic I found for Ochocinco is hilarious.

Pick 2.25 DT Venus Flytrap WKRP in Cincinnati debuted in 1978 and was one of my favorite shows of that era. When I had the Cincinnati team in MFN-70, I wanted to use WKRP names and had trouble getting them to work. In that league I used Venus Flytrap's given name, Gordon Sims.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venus_Flytrap_(WKRP_in_Cincinnati)

Pick 3.25 C J.R. Ewing Dallas also debuted in 1978 and while I was too young to like it much, everyone my age remembers all the "Who shot J.R.? ****. The answer will be me if he busts lol. On second thought I would just cut him.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._R._Ewing

Pick 4.25 SS Reverend Jim Ignatowski Taxi was yet another show to debut in 1978 and Reverend Jim was my favorite character. I'm rooting for him to blossom so I can keep him on the roster.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Ignatowski

Pick 5.25 K Les Nessman WKRP's 5 time winner of the Buckeye Newshawk Award and the #1 customer of Band-Aids, he is now trying his hand at place kicking. If anyone has never seen the Thanksgiving episode of WKRP, find it online and watch it, it's epic.

The character was written as being from Dayton and I always thought it was funny with their you don't want to be in Dayton after dark gags. Gary Sandy and Gordon Jump, who played Andy Travis and Arthur Carlson on the show, actually are from Dayton. See, my town is known for something besides heroin OD's and panhandlers lol.

I have one more to add to the list as I just outbid Portland* for this guy...

TE Johnny Fever The former Bruce Mastrangelo changed positions as well as names, though he may still play a little FB. This should be Booger's favorite character on WKRP as Fever was once fired from a radio station in L.A. for saying the word booger on air. Don't believe me? Click the link.

* technically Portland offered more total money than New Jersey but I maxed out the bonus money
