Good games all around. Slick's Hawaiians had an excellent season, winning with team play as Honolulu has no "stars". Nothing against Smirt but I was hoping for a better fate for Honolulu.
Slick's Hawaiians gave Smirt's SaberCats fits again, but the Cats win on a walk off safety. It's not the most famous walk off safety, that would be James Lockette's walk off safety to win World Bowl VIII, but it's Smirt's favorite walk off for sure.
His reward? A date with CJ's 9 time champion Houston Gamblers. Houston missed the playoffs last season and they seemed to take that personally as they win the toughest division in the league. They had to beat division rival San Antonio to get here, which was no easy task. The Gunslingers have a roster capable of winning a World Bowl if they could just get back there for another chance.
New Orleans run of dominance has come to an end, although they'll likely be right back in the mix in 2011. Back to back championships and a league record for consecutive victories give the VooDoo a soft landing following the disappointing loss to Pittsburgh.
Speaking of Pittsburgh, they were sitting at 6-5 after 11 weeks and were on the playoff bubble before they rallied down the stretch to win 4 of their last 5. Then in the post season they've beaten two higher seeds in Philadelphia and New Orleans. They'll need to do it one more time if they want to play in World Bowl XXXVII.
Jacksonville keeps putting strong teams on the field in becoming a title contender and they've had some playoff success, but they haven't quite reached where they want to go. It's a dilemma several teams face as we have more title contending teams than spots in the World Bowl but obviously not everyone can make it. It's tough so all you can do is keep banging on the door.
On the other hand we have Washington, who find themselves one win away from their 6th World Bowl one season after finishing with the worst record in the league. Whatever happens in the Conference Championship, this has been quite a turnaround for the Federals.
Congrats to the final four teams standing and good luck going forward.
