2005 Training Camp

By raidergreg69 - League Admin

Two out of three OL boomed, which was needed. Schrute might stick as a long snapper and Crewe might stick for depth/youth.

The names should be familiar to most of you as How I Met Your Mother (Barney Stinson), My Name Is Earl (Earl Hickey), and The Office, American version (Dwight Schrute) all debuted in 2005. Also, the remake of The Longest Yard (Paul Crewe) hit theaters in 2005.

Also, last year's rookie kicker struggled with accuracy because his bar hovered around 78/100 most of the season, with it being 80/100 during free agency. He is now 98/100 in kick accuracy and should be among the top few kickers in the league.

Considering I was not very impressed with the draft class. I am quiet surprised that Jacksonville had a pretty good training camp.

Pick 1.24
CB Greg The Hammer Valentine
+5/-11

Despite busting big, he has 90 speed at 222 lbs so he will get even faster and his M2M is 77 which I can work with. He will start despite the bust.

Pick 1.26
WR Randy Savage
+15/+8

A game changer with 94 speed & 100 ball carry, 100 pass catching & avoid fumble which should reach 80. My first thought is clearly RB but he also has run blocking that should be over 90 so TE is also an option along with of course WR.

I traded away my 2nd to land a 2nd 1st rounder so my next pick was in the 3rd round.

Pick 3.27
CB S. D. "Special Delivery" Jones
+4/+6

Special Delivery was one of those wrestlers who always lost on T.V. matches against the bad guys. A fan favorite who always looked great at the start of matches before the bad guy or his manager who screw him and he would lose. Once in a blue moon he would actually win but he was like the Generals playing the Globe trotters for the most part.

I liked his potential at LB with his 78 speed at 228 pounds which will get above 80 eventually. He has 100 M2M along with 86 acceleration and 80 strip ball. He will eventually start at 1 of the LB spots and provides immediate depth until he meets his full potential.

Pick 4.24
WR Diamond Dallas Page
+4/-1

A 85 speed WR who will get some play thanks to his 89 courage & 67 B&R. Not a starter but some depth.

CB Gorilla Monson
+4/+0

A typical switch pick in later rounds, this 80 speed 265 DE has 100 M2M and he will drop weight, gain speed and play LB. Much like S. D. Jones he will eventually start at 1 of the LB spots but start as depth until he reaches potential.

Pick 5.24
CB Koko B. Ware
+6/-2

A dice roll pick with 78 speed at 255 pounds. He should reach mid-80s speed and busting didn't help him but his 80 B&R will give him a shot at depth in the secondary.

Pick 5.25
WR Ravishing Rick Rude
+10/-4

My initial thought about him was I liked his RB and at 75 speed I could use him as WR1 or just on RUN plays but he busted which dropped his blocking down in the 50s so the Ravishing one will be a free agent soon.

Pick 6.27
WR Paul Orndorff
+5/-1

He has 77 speed at 228 lbs and had +90 route running & courage in the red. My thoughts were he will eclipse 80 speed and if he booms he could be have a serious set of pass catching attributes. He was a small bust so no big gains so he is essentially a preseason body and 50/50 if he even makes the roster.

Pick 7.26
RG Lou Albano
+7/-2

He was drafted because of his long snapping and its doubtful I keep him just to do that so at least cutdown day has some easy choices.

Theme of this draft for the Outlaws was skill players who can contribute soon. There may be only 7 players with 3 or less years of experience for Oklahoma and all were added this draft cycle. Overall, added some good to great pieces on offense but the defense will rely on some imperfect FA adds and aging veterans while they wait for quality reinforcements through the draft.

1.23 WR Michael Hagler 0 Vol +0: I know I say vol doesn't scare me but with so many aging skill players I knew I needed someone fairly talented to play in the coming seasons. Feels a bit like a steal even with his average speed.

2.14 WR Gary Kahn 94 Vol +6: Here's a high vol pick though. Best player the Outlaws drafted and another piece to help keep the offense going strong in the coming seasons. Should pair well with Hagler as a solid 1-2 punch if we get some lean drafts in the coming seasons.

2.23 DB Dylan Hyler 82 Vol -3: Another high vol pick and unfortunately our first bust. He will keep losing weight and gaining speed which should keep him on the roster as again we are going to be aging skill players at every level.

4.23 RB Adam Jones 24 Vol +0: A quality RB piece found in the 4th round. Avoid fumble is lower than I would like for an RB1 but Jones can definitely be a useful every down back.

4.27 DB William Hale 64 Vol -2: Doesn't have great speed but a boom would have made him quality depth. Now his spot is in limbo depending on other cuts around the league as well as how the depth chart will actually shake out.

5.23 RB Dave Hall 100 Vol -7: A good swing taken to find a guy who may have needed a year to develop before becoming a quality player. However, Hall was consistently late and unmotivated and will be off the team in the coming week.

6.23 WR Nelson Kelley 100 Vol -6: Another swing trying to mine starting caliber players in the later rounds and another miss. Kelley routinely was afraid to make the catch in traffic or make the most out of the reps he was given in camp. He will know what the shape of Italy is after he gets the boot from the Outlaws.

7.23 OL Jerry Schreffler 100 Vol +10: Could be a big find for the Outlaws as they will certainly need quality lineman to keep Settles standing upright in the Southwest division. Schreffler is certainly a mauler in the run game but how his pass protection develops will ultimately decide whether he gets a second contract or not.

Special mention to OL Kenneth Nemeth 86 Vol +14. Originally drafted at 7.3 by the NY Stars, he was released by the Stars before TC and signed with the Outlaws over the Wranglers. The San Diego State product excelled in the Midwest heat just like he did in California and seized a chance to take a starting spot from an incumbent.

Shocking draft for the Steamer. Five picks, five bad busts. Guess that’s volatility for you.

QB 3rd round, vol 96, -12, future 65
LDE 5th round, vol 90, -10, future 60
LT 6th round, vol 60, -8, future 63
RB 6th round, vol 60, -3, future 59
DT 7th round, vol 84, -7, future 60
