NY Stars Situation Explained

I got a PM today from a concerned owner about what's going on in New York. I answered him but to hopefully avoid doing this again, I'll address it here.

Nosedive-Neil asked me to give him dead cap relief, which I refused per league rules. That's for new owners upon entry into the league only.

He said ok, I have a plan. He then asked me to extend late free agency, which I also said no. Late free agency often sucks, and if I changed anything about it, it would be shorter not longer. Of course we'd have to vote on it and it wouldn't be implemented until next season anyway so I never brought it up to the league.

NN never told me what his plan is but it's pretty clear now what that plan is...he's going to have an all, or mostly all rookie team. He's still with less cap room than he'll need for all those picks but he seems to be narrowing the gap.

I realize the optics of this doesn't look good but no rules are being violated. Yes I am commish of the league but I don't have the right to tell someone how to run their team so long as they are following the rules in place. If I did, New York wouldn't be the only team I'd be messing with as some team's roster construction would never fly irl.

If I'm going to allow people to have WR lined up at TE and allow teams to have a mostly all DB defense, I have to allow NN to attempt to fix his cap mess on his own.

Nose-dive Neil is having his own allocation draft since he has 46 draft picks in this draft but no 1st rounders.

Haven't really done a deep dive into this draft class but I hope it has a ton of talent!

I hope you don't have to work W/Th/F, Neil, 'cause running this draft is going to be a full time job!

It's gonna be interesting 4 seasons from now when all these rookies are ready for their next contract.

It's gonna be real interesting when a majority of his team ages out at the same time.

Training camp will really be like Christmas morning for him. He'll get some lumps of coal and he'll get some great gifts. With so many rookies their boom/bust will be all over the place.

I'm also interested to see how an all rookie team performs when the games count.

I hope to deliver gifts to all. Also, the team will be absolute trash so you´ll have that to look forward to

Maybe the first season but if you draft well, you could have a pretty good team in a few seasons.

I'm concerned about the cap going forward. It says you need 187 million for this year's draft picks.

So assuming all the picks make the roster, that's at least 187 million in salary next season plus 338 million in dead cap next season which equals 525 million.

The total cap this season is 470 million so even if it hits 500 million next season...you see my concern!

That's not counting money needed for the 20+ draft picks next season including 5 1st & 4 2nds!!!

You will be able to redo all those rookie contracts and cut the dead weight players to save some money but I fear you might have to trade a bunch of draft picks next draft for even further future draft picks.

Oh well, it's a worry for another day I guess...at least this draft should be fun for you!
