World Bowl XI: Houston 27, New Jersey 23The team with fewer first downs, fewer yards, more turnovers, a worse third-down conversion rate, and almost 10 fewer minutes of possession won a league championship game Wednesday. Go figure.
The Houston Gamblers took home their second big trophy in three years by edging the New Jersey Generals, 27-23. Houston coach Cjfred68 was given a Gatorade shower by his players after leading the Gamblers to a title in his first full season at the helm.
The Generals led early, 17-7, but Houston kept coming back with big plays. The Gamblers scored TDs on drives of 75, 94, and 75 yards. QB Tony Dean threw the go-ahead TD pass 67 yards to Gabriel Ahrens with 10:25 remaining and Daniel McCormick accounted for the final score via a field goal with 2:13 to play. New Jersey got as close as the Houston 33, but four consecutive incompletions halted the Generals' final drive.
Gamblers RB Chase Miles (whose default rating is a 62) was named MVP after compiling 45 yards rushing, 161 yards receiving, and two TDs. Gamblers SS Paul Sabella was credited with 11 tackles. Rudi Johnson piled up 157 yards rushing and 60 receiving for the Generals.
