Re: NJ Generals Name/# historical inaccuracies

Where possible I'm renaming my players after real life New Jersey Generals, and giving them their uniform #, but sometimes I can't be 100% accurate due to system limitations. I will explain them here as they occur.

Doug Fluty - Name and # inaccurate, name due to Flutie not being in the system and uniform # because I can't give a QB #22. If it was possible I would temporarily make him a RB so I could assign him 22 but he can't be a RB. Oh well, I knew going in this would happen with some guys.

Gregory Johnson - His name is actually Greggory but I made it what I did for 2 reasons. Main reason is out of principle lol. My name is Gregory and that extra 'g" bothers me to no end plus the system won't let me anyway.

Kerry Justin - The former Seahawk wore a different number each of his 2 years as a real General, 23 and 26. Seahawk research revealed a 3rd number, 20, so that didn't help. It seems to me that in 1984 with NJ he wore 23 while Gary Barbaro wore 26. In 1985, Barbaro wasn't on the roster so I assume that's why Justin switched to 26. He had 8 int's in 1985 so I would give him the 26 but I already named someone Gary Barbaro and gave him 26, so here we are. Kerry Justin #23 in your program.

Jeff Speck - Spek is not available so I had to use the common spelling.

...continued

Donald Trump - https://usflwfl.myfootballnow.com/forums/thread/3/53?page=1#107

Don Maggs - He wore #76 as a General because Bryan Millard wasn't using it anymore not being on the team and whatnot. Idk what # he will end up with but it won't be accurate.

Caught up with the naming/numbers through my 43rd pick, the rest will be done after work this morning. Scraping the bottom of the NJ Generals roster barrel.

Roger Ruzich - This is as close to Ruzek as I could get with the name machine and the Generals had no other kickers do anything significant in their brief history.

Marcus Anderson - He wore #86 for NJG in 1985, which was worn previously by Tom McConnaughy and currently used by him in this version of NJG. Picked #16 randomly.

It is really cool to see you delving into the history of the USFL. There were some REALLY good players in that league, including future Hall of Famers. Not to pile on the Generals owner, but that league might still be going today if he hadn't convinced other owners to battle the NFL head-on in the fall.

It's more like reliving the memories as I was a teenager when the USFL was around. I loved spring football and didn't understand why Trump pushed so hard so early. If I had been in a USFL fantasy league I would have dominated like I did the XFL leagues I was in. The old Fanball fantasy site, Exit 42, had fantasy for their lone season and I didn't lose a game. I had read a league preview and knew the aggressive offense the LA Xtreme planned on running would be a fantasy goldmine. I can't recall the names of the WR's but Tommy Maddox was awesome and even got himself back in the NFL. He Hate Me aka Rod Smart was my favorite player, loved his nickname and who can forget the pig scramble coin flip.

No worries about trashing the owner, I didn't pick this team because I liked them. I picked them because of the West Coast offense and 4-3 defense. Pretty sure all but 1 of my teams runs WCO and I used to exclusively run the 3-4 but now I think I like the 4-3 more. I run so much nickel the base set doesn't matter much.

Last error entry. Some players may switch positions at a later date, so that will make them "errors" so to speak.

Charles Anderson - Looks like I waited too long post draft to change his name as he has no rename button. Despite it being a generic name, I will remember this one because 15 years ago I had a buddy/roommate with that name though he went by Charlie. When our place of employment shut down, he left me high and dry by myself in a 2 bdr apt.

To summarize, other than spelling/uni #, all but 2 of my team's players were NJ Generals at some point, Anderson and Donald Trump, though Trump was obviously affiliated with NJG.

From here on out, I have no clue what I will rename my draftees in future years but they will be changed. The random name generator isn't all that random if you play in several leagues as in the beginning I had difficulty remembering which G. Nicholson was on which team.
