The media-shy Steamers were happy to say a few things at this week press conference. After being left stunned and speechless after the week one loss a few more faces were willing to put themselves in front of the great and the good this week.
LB John Cintron said “all we needed was to have that article saying that Philadelphia were expected to go 2-0 after their superb week one win, pinned on the wall for us all to see every time we walked into the locker room to give us the extra fire. The Bell was not ding-donging this week!”.
The week 2 win may have had a bit more to do however with the OC’s decision to let the Steamer 2nd year QB free his arms with the result of 6 passing touchdowns from 16 completions. The OC commented that it was a conscious decision to give him more freedom as in week 1 we tried to keep a balanced offensive even though we were missing our starting RB and fell so close in the agonising 40-37 overtime loss.
QB Fred Murphy could become a star of this league the owner was caught whispering to anyone who wanted to listen. He had a tough rookie season but he is developing nicely and the receiving corps were bolstered in preseason so that he now does now have offensive options.
Lets not forget the D, the DC piped up. Not at all. How the Bell QB was able to leave the field on his feet was a surprise to many and fair play to him for soldering on. Nine sacks, four interceptions and a 46.63 QB rating is not a great day at the office. Steamer first round draft pick Anthony Kent registered his first sack to great cheer from the back room draft boys.
It was left to the HC to be the voice of reason and remind everyone we only have a 1-1 record in a league that is ultra-competitive. It is a marathon not a sprint.
