Not a good day for the home teams as they went a collective 2-4. We are now down to the final 8 teams.

Oakland Invaders 16 Los Angeles Express 7

Both offenses started off slow before Oakland kicked a pair of FGs for a 6-0 lead. Domingo Robinson then found Jordan Layne for a 3 yard TD pass and a 13-0 halftime lead. Los Angeles got back into the game after Robinson's 2nd INT, with a 10 yard TD run by Jerry Witherspoon.

That's as close as the Express would get as the Invaders held them to 159 offensive yards. Harry Warnke had the best stat line for Oakland, catching 8 passes for 102 yards.

Memphis Showboats 24 Michigan Panthers 10

Michigan scored a FG and a TD on their first 2 drives to take a 10-0 lead, but the Showboats defense stiffened after that as the Panthers would score no more today. Alex Allen got Memphis on the scoreboard near the end of the first half with a 24 yard TD pass to Michael Chapin.

Memphis got the ball to start the 2nd half and they drove for another TD, taking a 14-10 lead on George Hoffman's 2 yard TD run. On their next drive, Alex Allen found Antonio Bethea for an 82 yard TD for a 21-10 lead and the defense made it stand up for the win.

Allen threw for 282 yards and 2 TDs with Bethea catching 3 for 135 and a TD. George Hoffman ran for 63 yards and a TD.

San Jose SaberCats 11 Honolulu Hawaiians 3

The most prolific passing attack in the league took the night off as San Jose attempted 0 passes for the game. They ran 66 times for 341 yards and the game had 13 total drives. The SaberCats defense forced Honolulu to punt on 5 of their 6 drives, allowing a FG on the other. San Jose started the game with a 15 play 75 yard drive that took 8:44 off the clock. Barry Adams got the octopus, scoring on a 3 yard TD run and also running in the 2 point conversion.

That early 8-0 lead would hold up as all that running kept the clock moving, limiting the Hawaiians chances for a comeback. William McDuffie led the way with 18 rushes for 102 yards.

Jacksonville Bulls 17 Philadelphia Bell 10

In a game opposite of SJ/Hon, these teams had 18 drives each. Most of the scoring came in the first half with just a Philadelphia FG coming after the break. Jacksonville scored first on a 1 yard TD run by Cornell Anderson. The Bulls would add a FG for a 10-0 lead before a Joel Jasso short TD pass to Steven Franklin cut the lead to 10-7. William Barron then found Jose Berry for a 63 yard TD in the final minute of the first half for a 17-7 lead.

Jacksonville turned the ball over 3 times but the Bulls defense had 5 sacks. Neither team could sustain drives, as evidenced by 36 total drives in a regulation game. Not even any good stat lines to highlight but Jacksonville is happy because they get to keep playing.

Pittsburgh Maulers 18 Orlando Renegades 10

Orlando joined Michigan in getting out to an early 10-0 lead before not scoring the rest of the game. The Renegades didn't score on their first drive but did on their 2nd and 3rd for that early lead. Pittsburgh would have tied the score before halftime but Herbert Parks missed the XP after a Thomas Hampton TD pass and the Renegades led 10-9 at the break.

Nobody scored in the 3rd qtr but Parks made a FG early in the 4th to give the Maulers a 12-10 lead, then Andrew Paul's late TD run put the game away. Parks missed another XP but still led 18-10 and they forced Orlando to go 3 and out the entire second half up to this point. Orlando would finally get a first down on their final drive but couldn't advance very far and turned it over on downs.

Hampton threw for 249 yards and a TF to Eugene Williams who caught 5 for 102 yards.

Washington Federals 30 New Jersey Generals 3

Washington had no trouble with New Jersey as their defense shut down the Generals rushing attack and intercepted Curtis Kim twice. Michael Kreuger ran for 101 yards while Michael Erickson threw for 208 yards and 2 TDs. Fred Messer caught one of the scores among his 5 for 114 yards. New Jersey's only points came mid 4th qtr after they were trailing 23-0.

The Divisional Round is complete and we're down to the final four. Are we headed for a rematch of World Bowl XXXIX? We'll find out tonight.

San Antonio Gunslingers 33 San Jose SaberCats 8

The San Jose defense forced a few turnovers but they couldn't stop the yards and points. San Antonio ran for 224 yards, led by Michael Barry's 133. George Warner threw for 295 yards with 3 TDs and 2 INTs. San Jose QB Myron Dustin was sacked 8 times and threw 4 INTs, and the SaberCats scored their TD on a 105 yard kickoff return by Robert Moreira. Jeffrey Tate had 5 sacks for San Antonio while Clifford Farmer had 2 INTs.

Memphis Showboats 35 Oakland Invaders 7

Oakland scored first on a short TD run by Sean Sheffield, then it was all Memphis. George Hoffman ran for 128 yards and Alex Allen threw for 295 yards and 4 TDs without an INT. Hoffman caught 1 of the TD passes, adding 33 receiving yards to his total while fellow RB Randy Schmidt was the leading receiver, catching a pair of TDs among his 3 for 82 yards. Schmidt also ran for 69 yards. The only negative for Memphis was their kicker missed a FG and an XP but they still advance to the Conference Championship against a familiar foe.

New Orleans VooDoo 24 Pittsburgh Maulers 16

New Orleans did their best to give the game away but Pittsburgh wasn't able to redeem all of the gifts and fell short. The VooDoo lost the turnover battle 6-0 as James Wright threw 5 INTs and Gerald Waldon lost a fumble. Pittsburgh was down 17-6 at the half but got within 17-16 in the 3rd qtr. New Orleans scored a 4th qtr TD for an 8 point lead before the Maulers put together a potential scoring drive. They got as close as the New Orleans 13 yard line before turning it over on downs.

Wright did throw for 404 yards and 2 TDs, getting 100+ yards and a TD from both Nicholas Reyes and Gary Erickson.

Washington Federals 27 Jacksonville Bulls 23

Jacksonville's offense had the better game except for turnovers, racking up 504 yards. William Barron completed 33/56, 410 yards 2 TDs and 4 INTs. A couple of the INTs set up short fields for Washington, resulting in 10 points and the others killed potential scoring drives, including the 4th INT late in the game. Jacksonville was down 27-23 and driving inside the 2 minute warning. It was 4th and 5 from the Washington 16 yard line when Barron threw INT #4, sealing the game for Washington. Had Charles Tello not missed an XP earlier in the 4th, the Bulls could have tried a game tying FG instead of needing a TD.

Washington's William Flock had 200 combined yards, 180 receiving and he scored 2 TDs, one on the ground and one through the air.

The Conference Championship Games had very little drama as San Antonio and New Orleans won easily.

San Antonio Gunslingers 32 Memphis Showboats 6

Memphis played decently defensively, holding San Antonio to 340 yards and 16 offensive points. The problem for the Showboats was the offense allowing more points than they scored, plus a kickoff return TD. Memphis had a 6-3 lead in the 2nd qtr before George Warner's 10 yard TD pass to Daniel Cruz put the Gunslingers in the lead for good.

The big swing was in the middle of the 3rd qtr, when Alex Allen was sacked in the end zone for a safety by Terry Macha. James Douglas then returned the free kick 99 yards for a TD, turning a 10-6 game into a 19-6 game. From there, San Antonio added a pair of FGs before Peter Sanders wrapped up the scoring with a Pick Six.

Michael Barry was the star of the game, running for 106 yards, adding 24 more on 3 receptions.

New Orleans VooDoo 52 Washington Federals 0

Any thoughts of New Orleans being vulnerable after the divisional round escape were quickly quashed. The defense forced 3 punts and 2 INTs on Washington's first 5 drives while the offense built a 21-0 lead. Things snowballed from there for the Federals. They had no answer for James Wright (34/41, 362 yards, 6 TDs, 0 INT) or Nicholas Reyes (10-236-2) today. New Orleans also got 65 rushing yards each from Gerald Waldon and Howard Becker, with Waldon scoring a TD as well. Defensively New Orleans finished with 4 sacks and 3 INTs.
