I started looking at the first round and I'm through the top 10 picks.

In order, by my weights, they went 0,-2, -4, -6, 0, -3, -2, +1, -14, +3

Add them up and it's -27, an average of -2.7 per player.

Two small booms, two static and six busts. Not what you want to see if you're picking early.
That is why I don't draft or play the draft game. He controlled the draft pool to bring minimal impact on the league each season.

The reality is the draft gives you young controllable players and boom/bust isn't a true indicator of a players value.

It's all about what the player adds to each team and let's face it some of the picks weren't gonna be a real factor regardless of what they did in TC.

PICK 1-10
9 of the first 10 picks are easily starters and the 3rd overall pick is a 70 speed RB who busted but even with a boom of +15 is he ever a real playmaker?

PICKS 11-20
Again, 9 of 10 are starters with the 20th overall pick a 73 speed LB who boomed +1 and needs to switch to DB to become a marginal starter too.

PICKS 21-32
I count 8 of 12 as starters with 4 players who aren't including:

1.24 RB with 76 speed at 208 lbs who busted -3 but is he a starter if he booms? Maybe as WR1 but never a real playmaker anyway.

1.26 CB with 77 speed at 191 lbs who busted -10 but even with a boom he is a CB1 at best.

1.28 WR with 90 speed at 198 lbs who busted -16 who wont start but he will make the roster as depth because of his speed.

That's a total of 26 1st rounders who should start or at worse be the primary backup at their position including 18 players with 80+ speed among the 23 non linemen taken.

That leaves 2 OL & 7 DL taken in the 1st round.

I have the OL at 86 RT & 85 LT. The LT had a 0 boom/bust and has 70 speed, 98 strength plus 82 run block and 100 pass block. He starts anyway on my line.

The RT actually busted -6 but still he has 66 speed, 85 strength plus 83 run block and 87/94 pass block so a possible starter but definately a primary backup at worse.

The 7 DL include:

1.4 DT who busted -6
73 speed, 99 strength, 45/84 pass rush & 75/88 run block at 309 lbs. He can start at DT especially if he is converted to DE and his speed jumps to 80

1.10 LDE who boomed +4
72 speed, 93 strength, 100 run block and 53/100 pass rush at 294 lbs so he should approach 80 speed.

1.12 LDE who busted -8
80 speed, 82 strength, 55/66 pass rush & 53/60 pass rush at 276 lbs. The bust hurt him but I would switch him to WLB and keep him as an edge rusher with 87 speed.

1.16 DT who busted -4
79 speed, 87 strength, 49/87 pass rush & 70/82 run block at 304 lbs. I would make him a DE and keep him at DT where he would be 86 speed...beast!

1.22 DT who busted -4
79 speed, 78 strength, 78/84 pass rush & 66/86 run block at 300 lbs so make him a starting LDE where he would have 86 speed on the edge

1.23 LDE who boomed +5
73 speed, 89 strength, 40/100 pass rush & 74/99 run block at 282 lbs so I change him to WLB and he sets the edge at either RDE or LDE at 80 speed.

I'm not moving Bohannon to DB, he has no bump and run skills. He's not fast but he's not slow and his low volatility meant he wouldn't bust too hard. This pick was more about need than anything else.

I wasn't excited about the pick then and still not excited now but he will start. He's by far my highest rated LB and the rest of my LB group is mostly old.

Just because a player's overall rating went down doesn't mean he's actually a bust. We should all find a different common word to describe a player who loses value because when I think bust, I either think of a woman's chest or a totally worthless draft pick like Jamarcus Russell or Akili Smith.

In MFN, we have many busts who thrive, mostly the ones with speed. Even other positions where speed isn't as important, a player who "busts" 6 points to go from an 86 to an 80 should still be useful.

We all have different approaches to building our rosters that work for us and what works for you might not work for someone else. Look at Smirt's roster. Obviously a veteran laden roster with no draft picks to add won't work for many, but seeing as how he's the defending champion, it obviously works for him. He's the real life Rams, saying F them picks.

The one thing we all have in common is we want speed.

I agree with everything you said except the last sentence.

Look at the first 4 picks of the 2nd round or a few of the 1st rounders and it's clear some owners still don't care about speed

What's that quote? Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it? Speed is required to win consistently no matter what version we run. It was true in 4.2 and it's still true now. It's also true in the NFL.

Those that don't recognize or ignore that fact are doomed to keep picking high in the draft I guess.

I wish his son had half the football smarts he had instead of just a goofy haircut.

Imagine back in the day the son of the king would become the future king and how much of a crapshoot that was!!!
