If you don't know you're game result, please stop reading.

2009 Wildcard Weekend concluded today without much drama, although Pittsburgh nearly pulled off a miracle comeback. Orlando had a 27-0 4th qtr lead before Pittsburgh made a furious comeback bid that fell just short. More on that shortly.

San Antonio Gunslingers 30 Portland Storm 6

Portland did a good job containing Glenn Graham on the ground, holding him to 58 yards on 18 carries. Unfortunately for the Storm, they were torched through the air by George Warner and their entire offense was contained by the Gunslingers defense. Warner threw for 362 yards and 2 TDs, with all 5 pass catchers gaining between 44 and 97 yards. Portland had trouble running the ball without injured Thomas Frank and George Schacht struggled through the air, completing just 13/31 passes for 94 yards, an INT and 2 sacks. Dennis Lovett kicked 3 FGs for San Antonio and CB Wm Kaiser had 17 tackles to lead the Gunslingers defense.

Michigan Panthers 25 Cleveland Thunderbolts 16

Michigan started the game about as good as you can, scoring a TD on their first 3 offensive possessions while holding Cleveland without a first down the entire first half. Brendan Tullis ran for 2 of those TDs on his way to a monster game of 254 rushing yards. Tullis passed Portland's Jose Moses for 2nd most all time in a post season game. Moses had 252 against Houston in 1993 to fall short of the record 272 Jake Peralta had for Denver in 1991 against Houston as well.

Raymond Spencer missed 2 of 3 XPs but would kick a short FG in the 2nd qtr as Michigan led 22-0 at halftime. Cleveland would comeback with a FG and a 10 play, 94 yard TD drive to get within 22-10 after 3 qtrs. Michigan would extend the lead with a FG before Cleveland's Carl Langlois found Robert Smalls for a 75 yard TD with 6:46 left. The 2 point try failed, making the score 25-16. Cleveland kicked away rather than try an onside kick, which turned out to be a bad decision because Michigan kept the ball the rest of the game, using 14 plays to drain the clock to 0:00 and advance.

Oklahoma Outlaws 38 Honolulu Hawaiians 10

Raymond Settles, Raymond Russo, and Domenic Winstead were too much for the Honolulu defense to handle as they all had big games. Settles was nearly flawless, completing 31/34, 340 yards and 4 TD passes, 3 to Domenic Winstead. The USFL leading receiver, Winstead caught 9 for 131 yards while Russo had a combined 169 yards and a TD, with 105 of that on the ground. Honolulu had back to back long drives late 3rd/early 4th but it was too little, too late at that point, being down 31-0 at the time.

Orlando Renegades 27 Pittsburgh Maulers 21

The 1st qtr was a punt fest before the Orlando offense warmed up. Dwayne Byrd threw 2 TD passes and Thomas Gilbert had a 6 yard TD run as the Renegades built a 21-0 halftime lead. Orlando would get the ball to start the second half and added a FG, then got another FG following a Pittsburgh fumble for a 27-0 lead with just 8:06 to play. Pittsburgh had done little offensively all day, but Brian White caught fire, throwing 3 TD passes to get the Maulers within 27-21 just inside the 2 minute warning. The onside kick failed and Orlando ran out the remaining clock to win and advance.

Jacksonville Bulls 34 Birmingham Stallions 21

Jacksonville's offense started slow, getting a couple of FGs then a couple of punts while Birmingham got a short Philip Snyder TD run to lead 7-6. From that point, Bulls QB William Barron put on a show, finishing 21/26, 385 yards and 4 TD passes, all to different receivers. These weren't short drives either, as they covered 94, 75, 80, and 95 yards. Russell Gall tried to keep up, finishing with 297 yards and 2 TD passes but the Stallions had 3 turnovers on downs to prevent matching the Bulls points. William McLendon was the leading receiver, catching 3 for 127 and a TD covering 69 yards that sparked the Jacksonville 24 point run.

Philadelphia Bell 31 New Jersey Generals 19

Philadelphia got out to a 14-0 lead thanks to a pair of Joel Jasso TD passes to Jason Wharton. New Jersey fought back with a FG and a Kevin Via TD pass to trail 14-10 at the half. Joel Jasso threw 2 more TD passes in the second half, sandwiching a Generals FG for a 28-13 lead early in the 4th. Kevin Via found Alec Hardison for a 67 yard TD pass to get within 28-19 but the score remained that when the 2 point try failed. New Jersey didn't threaten to score again while the Bell tacked on a FG for a final score of 31-19.

Philadelphia went right at the Generals' strength, as Jasso completed 28/53, 456 yards, 4 TDs, 2 INTs, and 3 sacks. Jason Wharton caught 3 TD passes among his 9 for 222 yards. Von Sustaita caught 4 for 115 yards and the other Jasso scoring pass. The Philadelphia defense held New Jersey to 57 rushing yards, and while Kevin Via completed 28/50, 253 yards and 2 TDs, he was sacked 5 times as the Bell win and advance.

The Divisional Round is complete and our Final Four is set. No need to ramble as I've waited long enough to not spoil anything for anyone.

San Antonio Gunslingers 18 San Jose SaberCats 6

The top 2 offenses in the league faced off in this game but it was the defenses that ruled the day. San Jose has the #1 defense and they intercepted George Warner twice and sacked him 3 times while San Antonio's #5 ranked defense intercepted Larry Henderson 3 times and sacked him 4 times. Each offense was 4/17 on 3rd and 4th down conversions combined, with only San Jose even trying a 4th down conversion and they only tried once. There was also just 1 red zone trip the entire game and neither team cracked the end zone.

The Gunslingers led 12-6 after 3 quarters and increased it late with a pair of FGs following an INT and turnover on downs. San Antonio's Glenn Graham was the offensive star of the game with a combined 165 yards, rushing for 93 yards on 16 carries and led the receivers catching 11 ***** for 72 yards. Kenneth Allen was the defensive player of the game with his 3 sacks of Larry Henderson.

Oklahoma Outlaws 41 Michigan Panthers 6

Michigan had a great season under their new, old ownership. Hellbringer showed his time away didn't hinder his ability, but unfortunately for him and his Panthers, they had to play Oklahoma today. Raymond Settles has had an excellent season and he continued his fine play today, completing 24/37 for 329 yards and 2 TDs. Donald Ramirez caught only 2 passes but they both went for TDs. The first TD pass covered 77 yards while the second one covered 0 yards according to the box score. Domenic Winstead had a big game as usual, catching 9 for 135 yards while the running attack had 177 yards and 2 TDs. Raymond Russo led the BCBC with 104 yards and a TD.

Oklahoma got off to a fast start, scoring the first 21 points of the game in the first 20 minutes. Michigan cut the lead to 21-3 before Oklahoma scored the next 20, taking us to the final 4 minutes of the game with a 41-3 lead. Michigan added a FG at that time to make it 41-6 but it was far too late to make a difference.

New Orleans VooDoo 19 Orlando Renegades 10

Orlando got the ball first and Dwayne Byrd led an 11 play, 75 yard TD drive, taking a 7-0 lead on a 16 yard TD pass to Brian Henson. That was pretty much the only highlight for the Orlando offense as they managed just 104 yards the rest of the game. The VooDoo defense intercepted Byrd once and sacked him 3 times, with the last sack knocking Byrd out of the game with a serious foot injury just before the 2 minute warning.

New Orleans would take a 9-7 lead into halftime thanks to 3 Mark Adams FGs, then Kenneth Anderson increased the lead to 16-7 with a 50 yard TD pass to Gerald Waldon late in the 3rd. Orlando would get within 16-10 thanks to a Roger Love FG midway through the 4th. Orlando would have one last drive to try and win the game with a TD but backup QB Michael Smith failed to complete any of his 5 passes (they got a first down via penalty), turning it over on downs. From there, New Orleans ran out the clock, kicking a FG at the gun to win 19-10 and advance.

Philadelphia Bell 48 Jacksonville Bulls 23

Jacksonville had 426 yards of offense, however all but 118 yards came when they were trailing 31-0 in the second half. The first half, the Bulls struggled on both sides of the ball and it continued into the early 3rd qtr as the first 8 Jacksonville drives ended with 6 punts, an INT and a lost fumble. Meanwhile, Joel Jasso was carving up the Jacksonville secondary, finishing the game 35/56, 471 yards and 5 TDs. Jason Wharton caught 9 passes for 171 yards and 3 TDs while Von Sustaita caught 5 for 115 and a TD. Frederick Martin was the only ball carrier Philadelphia used and he finished with 102 yards and a TD.

William Barron finished with 428 yards passing and 2 TDs with William McLendon catching 11 for 158 yards and a TD for Jacksonville in a losing effort.

Conference Championship Weekend is complete and World Bowl XXXVI is set with the New Orleans VooDoo putting their perfect season on the line against the Oklahoma Outlaws. This is the 8th World Bowl for New Orleans and the 4th for Oklahoma but this will be the first time these teams have met in the big game. New Orleans seeks to become the 5th team in USFL history to finish a season 19-0, joining the 1977 Detroit Wheels, 1986 Memphis Showboats, 2001 Oklahoma Outlaws, and the 2007 Pittsburgh Maulers.

Whichever team hoists the trophy will be doing so for the 3rd time in franchise history. New Orleans is just 2-5 in the World Bowl but they were 0-5 before winning the last 2 they were in, including last year's World Bowl XXXV. Oklahoma has won 2 of their 3 World Bowls and their last World Bowl appearance was a win in World Bowl XXXIII.

Oklahoma Outlaws 14 San Antonio Gunslingers 3

This game was a defensive struggle with 22 combined punts, 4 turnovers, 7 sacks, and 3/30 on 3rd downs. Oklahoma finally got the scoring underway mid 2nd qtr when Raymond Settles found Domenic Winstead for a 61 yard TD and a 7-0 lead. On the Outlaws next drive Settles found Winstead for a 72 yard TD and a 14-0 lead before they went back to punting. San Antonio had trouble moving the ball in the first half, gaining 73 yards and getting just 3 first downs all half as Oklahoma took a 14-0 lead into the locker room at the half.

The second half didn't start much better for the Gunslingers as they punted 2 more times before finally putting together a FG drive to get within 14-3. The San Antonio defense did their job in the second half, forcing the Outlaws to punt or turn the ball over on every drive after the break. The Gunslingers offense also continued to play better, although they didn't score any more points. They lost a fumble on one drive then turned it over on downs rather than kick a FG as the clock was becoming their biggest enemy.

The Oklahoma defense had 6 sacks on the day and recovered a fumble while the San Antonio defense managed 1 sack with 3 forced turnovers, including 2 INTs by Raymond Settles, who finished 19/37, 260 yards and 2 TDs. Domenic Winstead caught both scores among his 5 for 162 yards. RDE Ralph Magallanes had 4 sacks for Oklahoma.

New Orleans VooDoo 28 Philadelphia Bell 22

Sometimes teams go undefeated through brute force, they're just better than everyone else and you usually see them in MFN # leagues. Sometimes teams need to be a little lucky, or perhaps create their own luck to skate through a tough schedule unscathed. New Orleans is in the latter group as they are 18-0 now despite not always playing their best football.

Today Philadelphia's defense was responsible for the VooDoo not playing up to potential as they intercepted Kenneth Anderson 3 times, sacked him 3 times, and kept New Orleans from converting any of their 13 3rd down conversions as they took a 13-3 lead into the 4th qtr. Joel Jasso got the scoring underway with a 46 yard TD pass to Frederick Martin in the 1st qtr for a 7-0 lead. The teams exchanged 2nd qtr FGs as Philadelphia led 10-3 at the half, adding a FG in the 3rd.

As we went to the 4th qtr, Philadelphia was in scoring range, and Keeshawn Tye's 3rd FG gave the Bell a short lived 16-3 lead. Tye kicked off and James Peterson took it 103 yards for a TD, pulling the VooDoo within one score at 16-10. Philadelphia's Joel Jasso then threw an interception to James Griffin and it appeared the VooDoo just ripped the momentum back, but alas...yellow laundry on the field. The officials ruled that Griffin interfered with the receiver, wiping the INT off the board. Philadelphia would end up with a FG on the drive for a 19-10 lead with 8:51 to play.

This time Tye kicked it deep enough for a touchback, but then Kenneth Anderson found Michael Ferrell for a 75 yard catch and run TD and just like that the score is 19-17 Philadelphia. The next 3 drives were punts before Kenneth Anderson threw his 3rd INT with 3 minutes to play. Philadelphia got a FG out of that to take a 22-17 lead at the 2 minute warning.

Tye had another touchback, can't have another kickoff return TD right? So the Philadelphia defense hits the field with one goal, not allow a TD. Well that goal was wiped out on one play as Kenneth Anderson once again found Michael Ferrell for a 75 yard catch and run TD to take a 23-22 lead. Andrew Powell ran in the 2 point conversion and just like that, New Orleans turned a 16-3 deficit into a 25-22 lead but Philadelphia had plenty of time for the tie or win. It was not meant to be however, as the Bell turned it over on downs, New Orleans added a FG for a 28-22 lead, leaving just 3 seconds on the clock for a miracle finish that didn't come for Philadelphia.

Michael Ferrell was the player of the game, catching 7 passes for 178 yards and those 2 huge 4th qtr TD receptions.
