It's the stretch run of the season and time to look at who is fighting for the playoffs. Three divisions are officially clinched and we could have more after tonight's action. Speaking of which, this will be just a quick overview. I'll do a more detailed version tomorrow when hopefully things are less jumbled.
In the American Conference the Portland Storm are the current #1 seed and West Division Champs while San Jose is #2 as Pacific Division Champs. No other team has clinched a playoff spot in this conference but the Houston Gamblers are close. The Gamblers are 9-3 with a 2 game lead on Memphis and Oklahoma and likely need to just go 2-2 down the stretch to play in January (or November 30th in MFN's case thanks to the calendar glitch).
The Midwest is a 4 team bundle with just 2 games separating them. Detroit currently leads with a 7-5 record. Cleveland (6-5-1) is a half game back, Chicago (6-6) is one game back and Michigan is 5-7.
For the wildcard, Arizona, Denver, and San Antonio are eliminated while it's going to be tough for Southern California, Oakland, Los Angeles, and Honolulu to make it as there are 4 teams ahead of them. As the standings sit now, Memphis, Oklahoma, and Cleveland would be the wildcard teams, plus Chicago sits at 6-6..
In the National Conference, it's good to call Pennsylvania home as Pittsburgh and Philadelphia lead the way with identical 11-1 records. Pittsburgh has clinched the Atlantic while it's just a matter of time before Philadelphia does the same in the East, as they have a 4 game lead with 4 to go.
The South is a slightly better version of the Midwest as all 4 teams are separated by 2 games. Shreveport and New Orleans are currently tied at the top with 8-4 records, Birmingham is 7-5 and Georgia is 6-6.
Orlando (9-3) has a 3 game lead on Jacksonville in the Southeast.
There are 4 teams eliminated in this conference, Tampa Bay, Florida, Baltimore, and New York.
The current wildcard situation is a pile of teams within 2 games of each other and Charlotte, who is 2 games out of the playoffs.
One of Shreveport/New Orleans would be a wildcard at 8-4, then we have Birmingham, Washington, Boston, and New Jersey all at 7-5. Georgia and Jacksonville are 6-6 while Charlotte sits at 5-7.
Good luck to everyone.
