16-0 in USFL History

The 2001 regular season is over and the Oklahoma Outlaws completed the 4th ever 16-0 regular season in league history. How will they fare in the post season? We'll find out soon enough, but history says they have a 2:1 chance to hoist the trophy after the World Bowl.

1977 Detroit Wheels The 77 Wheels were the defending champs and completed the first 16-0 regular season in our history. They curb stomped both Oklahoma and Los Angeles to reach World Bowl IV, where they beat a very tough Tampa Bay team to become the first back to back champion.

1986 Memphis Showboats This was the Infinity on Trial version and they shared a division with USFL newcomer Cjfred68 who were coming off back to back titles. This Memphis squad swept the defending champs along with everyone else on their schedule to finish 16-0. The Showboats then beat Michigan by 19 and Southern California by 31 to reach World Bowl XIII where they crushed New Jersey by 20 for the first of back to back titles.

1994 Baltimore Stars 4343 had Baltimore playing very well during this time period, and they had quite the rivalry with the Washington Federals. The Stars were 16-0 but Washington was 14-2, with their only 2 losses coming to Baltimore. The Stars got the BYE but their first game was against the Federals. Washington did not lose to Baltimore a 3rd time and the Stars finish one and done when it mattered.

I'd discount/invalidate 4343's accomplishment. He was a short-time period flame out whom nom-nom'd setherick's defensive posts to crib the Flat Zone and the blitz advantage play bgedgerly got mashed with here by setherick.

Addendum: 2 defensive play system.

I know he's on your list, I remember you talking about his limited playbook. From my point of view his accomplishment is already discounted because the Stars pulled a Schottenheimer in the playoffs. For you people younger than me or non U.S. based, Marty Schottenheimer was a former head coach of the Browns, Chiefs, and Chargers who was known for having great regular season teams that choked in the playoffs. The Chargers fired him after a 14-2 regular season because they went one and done in the post season.

Going undefeated is a great accomplishment regardless of how you achieve it!!!

Maybe even more so if using 2 defensive plays. That's an easy team to scout and find a solution against.

Primarily, going undefeated means you didn't have bad luck for the most part all season. Sure, an elite owner should beat the average owner more times then not but this sim does have a "death sim" built in!!!

That's a game where nothing goes right, you throw 5 interceptions and go 2/14 on 3rd down and 0/4 on 4th down. Throw in a fumble or 2 and a missed fieldgoal and you lose 13-12 despite outgaining your opponent by double!!!

Personally, I'm happy if I start the season 3-1 and lose one of my first 4 games. I look at it like ever win without a lose increases the pressure for the sim to bite you!

If you actually manage to go 16-0, then you now entering the postseason where you are playing good teams/owners and the chances you get hit with a "death sim" increase against teams you will have difficulty with on an even playing field.

The perfect 19-0 season happens but it is rare and should be applauded!!!

As a fierce competitor I just didn't like 4343 and his lack of originality needed to be checked and called out.

It was before people figured out how to attack the Flat Zone nerf and before JDB's patch that ended setherick's advantage blitz. (46 Heavy etc...right...whatever it was called)

4343 was attempting to branch out to many leagues with the intention of winning many titles having put no work in. I wasn't going to have that.

Put effort/work in. Then you deserve titles.
