2000 Season so far

We're 6 weeks in and we're down to 3 undefeated teams...San Jose, Oklahoma, and New Orleans. Starting 6-0 doesn't guarantee anything but it also doesn't hurt. The SaberCats and Outlaws have been at the top of the league the last couple seasons so it's no surprise they're undefeated. New Orleans is a bit of a surprise however, as they haven't had a winning season since 1992, although they did make the playoffs twice since then with 8-8 seasons.

Next, we have a wave of 5-1 teams. Los Angeles is 5-1, nipping at the heels of San Jose while our defending champs Houston are 5-1 nipping at the heels of Oklahoma. Chicago (5-1) has a 1.5 game lead on Detroit. In the National Conference, Birmingham is 5-1, nipping at the heels of New Orleans and they play each other in a few hours. The other 2 teams at 5-1 are tied atop the Florida Division, more commonly known as the Southeast. Jacksonville and Orlando are battling it out for division supremacy.

The West Division finds all 4 teams separated by just 1 game as division favorite Portland has had a rough start to the season, but still sits 3-3 tied with Arizona for the lead. The Atlantic division has Washington and Charlotte tied at the top with 4-2 records while New Jersey leads the East with a 4-2 record.

Who says you can't pass in 4.6? Not Smirt, or his QB Jake Plummer. Plummer is easily the MVP so far with 2,034 passing yards, 20 TD and 0 INT through 6 games. Plummer is crushing the league in YPA, with a 1.4 yard lead on 2nd place. It doesn't seem like a huge lead but that's yards per attempt and 8.23 vs 6.83 is a big gap. San Jose also has 3 of the top 7 WR, including #2 and 3. Craig Icenhour has 8 TD catches already while New Orleans WR Benjamin Jones paces the league with 570 yards and his 6 TD receptions are good for second place behind Icenhour.

We have 11 RB on pace for 1,000 yard seasons and a 12th 1 yard off the pace. Chicago's Brian Smith (570 yards) has a 25 yard lead on Jayson Shepherd of Washington for the league rushing lead. Craig Icenhour also leads the league in rushing TDs with 5, giving him 13 combined TDs already.

We have had 8 kickoff return TDs and 2 punt return TDs. Bruce Riley of Los Angeles has 2 of the kickoff return TDs.

Special teams must be an emphasis in L.A. as their kicker Brian Haworth is tied for the lead with 16 FGs, including 5 for 5 from 50+. Mark Marsh of Portland has nailed 21/34 punts inside the 20 yard line. It's not often they even get 50% or more so 21/34 is incredible.

The record for tackles in a season is 147, but we have two players on pace to break that mark. 147 is basically 9 tackles a game and our current leader, Baltimore's William Graham, has 64 through 6 games. Robert Szeto of Tampa Bay has 57 so far.

Our season sack record likely never gets broken (71 by Mark McKeon), but non exploit season record is 33. Steve Walker of Oklahoma is on pace to challenge 33 with 13 through 6 games. Jerry Gomez of Shreveport and Guy Phillips of Florida join Walker in the double digit sack club.

Bruce Million of Shreveport says don't throw on me, with his league leading 4 INTs on only 19 passes thrown his way. He's also only allowed 4 receptions for a ridiculous 21.1 catch allowed percentage. Oakland's Robert Mosley also has 4 INTs.

There is still more than half the season to go, so not everyone "on pace" will keep it up while others will no doubt pick up their pace. Good luck these next 10 games as we all fight to play January football, or November 30th football.

9 games are in the books and Jake Plummer is still playing like an MVP. The *** has actually thrown 3 INT now, all in a 2 game stretch but he bounced back huge in an important game. San Jose was 8-0, Los Angeles 7-1 and an Express win would make the division race as tight as humanly possible. All Jake Plummer did was complete 47 of 53 for 472 yards and 6 TDs, and now has a 31/3 TD/INT ratio this season. Plummer is off the record pace for TD passes, but with the switch to 4.6, not many people thought Don Ferguson's record of 64 would ever be challenged before we saw 4.7.

Last season Smirt seemed frustrated about not getting Craig Icenhour going offensively, but he's not frustrated this season. Icenhour has 18 TDs already, and only 2 players in league history have ever had 30+ TDs. Glen Hampton had 41 in his ridiculous record setting season and one of Smirt's previous weapons Nicholas Dorey had 35 TDs in 1990 when he ran New Orleans.

Chicago's Brian Smith has 896 rushing yards in 9 games and has a 111 yard lead on Scott Randall for the league lead. Craig Icenhour leads the league with 8 rushing TDs.

Icenhour sits atop the WR leaderboard as well, leading the league in receptions (82), yards (920), and TDs (10). Benjamin Jones of New Orleans is quietly having a fine season with 901 yards and 8 TDs so far. We have 4 WR on pace for 1000 receiving yards and a 5th not far off the pace.

We've had 14 kickoff return TDs this season and 2 punt return TDs. Chicago's Terry Chasse and Los Angeles' Bruce Riley both have returned 2 kickoffs for scores.

Brian Haworth of Los Angeles has made 21/22 FGs, including 6/6 from 50+. Two kickers have more FGs but imo Haworth is having the best season so far among kickers.

Portland's Mark Marsh has 34/54 punts inside the 20 yard line, an incredible percentage. Only 1 other punter is over 50% and that field position has probably been a huge factor in their current winning streak.

Robert Szeto has passed William Graham for the tackle lead, though they have each fallen off the record pace. 147 tackles is still within reach but they'll have to step up their game.

Steve Walker of Oklahoma also has fallen just short of (non exploit) record pace, but his 17 sacks in 9 games isn't too far off. Incredible season regardless. Eight players have double digit sacks already, QBs beware.

Bruce Million has been giving up a few more catches for a 34.6% catch allowed, but one name I missed earlier has shown himself. Darryl Stein of Chicago has 4 INTs and allowed just 6 catches all season, good for 21.4%. Oakland's Robert Mosley leads the league with 5 INTs.
