Playoff Races

It's not hard to tell which conference is better when you look at the playoff picture. In the National Conference, my Generals are the only team with a record better than 6-5, although the whole conference is still alive for a playoff berth. In the American Conference, Michigan is 10-0-1, San Jose, Portland, and Memphis are all 9-2, Los Angeles and Houston are 8-3, Honolulu is 7-3-1 and Denver is 7-4.

Michigan has clinched the Midwest already while New Jersey has clinched a playoff spot. There are literally 10 teams in the National Conference either 6-5 or 5-6, including all 4 teams in the Atlantic. Personally, I'm rooting for Charlotte to make the playoffs for the first time in franchise history.

The only team eliminated is the Oakland Invaders, who were 0-10 before Setherick joined. I mentioned the probable #1 pick in my recruiting pitch and Seth's response was something along the lines of he joined to ruin some playoff chances. Should be interesting to see the result of Oakland vs Portland next game, seeing as how Seth knows a lot of the players as he hasn't been away from the Storm very long.

Oh yeah, with the switch to version 4.6, we now use the current NFL playoff format with 3 wildcard teams. That leaves just 1 BYE available per conference.

I'll win the division and lose the first playoff game. My record sucks in the playoffs

I'd rather do that than lose another LC game. Lost at least my last 3 in a row, the one here last season and the last 2 in NFL.

In the American Conference, most everything is set. We know the teams, and we know 3 of the division winners but we don't know the wildcard seeds.

Michigan has the #1 seed locked up while Portland and Memphis won their divisions. MFN has Portland as the current #3 seed, Memphis #4.

Los Angeles needs to beat Boston or have San Jose lose to Philadelphia to win the Pacific. Whichever way that goes, both teams are in the playoffs.

Rounding out the field are Houston and Denver, who qualify as wildcards. Can the Gamblers win their 4th title in a row? It will be difficult but don't count them out until they're out.

The National Conference is less clear. We know New Jersey is the #1 seed while Florida has won the Southeast. We also know that Charlotte and Pittsburgh have clinched playoff spots with 9-6 records. One of them will win the Atlantic, the other gets a wildcard.

That leaves 5 teams fighting for 3 spots. Shreveport is 8-7 and just needs to beat Georgia to win the South. A loss opens the door for 7-8 New Orleans to win the division with a win over San Antonio. Even if Shreveport wins, New Orleans should grab a wildcard spot with a win, as MFN has them as the current #7 seed, last team in.

A Shreveport loss would make them 8-8 and in the wildcard mix with Tampa Bay, Jacksonville, and Philadelphia. All 3 teams are currently 7-8 and none play each other.

MFN says Washington is eliminated, but if they win to improve to 7-8-1, they are in if 3 of the 4 teams 7-8 lose.
