One of our owners has approached me about doing a one-day or weekend draft. The NCAA league is already doing this, and following the schedule below. The total time (if my math is correct) would be about 8.5 hours Saturday and 3.25 hours Sunday or 11.75 total hours if we did all of this in one day.
Resetting the draft time schedule is not one of the default options for commissioners of user-created leagues, but Bryson apparently asked JDB for special permission.
Let's discuss the issue. If there is enough of a consensus, we can move to a formal vote.
NCAA Draft Schedule Day One will take place on a Saturday January 12th starting at 8 AM Pacific Rounds 1-2: Five minutes to pick Rounds 3-4: Three minutes to pick
Day Two will take place on Sunday January 13th at 8 AM Pacific Rounds 5-7: Three minutes to pick
Now that I've posed the question, I will offer the first opinion.
For my situation, it is easier for me to get online occasionally during the week than during the weekends. I would also want to start the Sunday session a bit later, as I am in church most Sunday mornings.
So, for me, the current format works better. But that is just me. I am always interested to see what others think.
Since I am in the NCAA and participated in the 2 day event I can tell it was great. I was able to be online when I had to be to monitor how the draft was going and adjustment my picks accordingly. It could be a drain on the 1st day but the 2nd day was so much easier. Also there were anywhere from 15 to 20+ owners online during the whole draft so it help the time pass.
For me weekdays is hard for me to log in and check on my draft. I have missed many picks and got stuck with players that I didn't want or were just not good enough.
Doing a 1 day event for all 7 rounds would be hard and very draining.
I say if you are able to go to a 2 day event that would be great.
I love the 2 day idea and think it would be a huge activity booster since it's active enough that you can focus on the draft and not only pop on just before your pick because it takes too long. I think there would be an uptick in communication and trades.
I like the current format. Some of us have more chaotic schedules. Currently, I may miss a pick or two, with the new proposal, it is possible that I miss an entire draft.
I would prefer the current format. I'm already busy enough as it is. It's a lot easier for me to pop on here at certain times during weekdays to quickly draft a player than to spend a whole weekend. I don't want to possibly miss a whole draft because I can't spend hours at a time on a computer.
Absolutely not! Half of my work week is Friday and Saturday nights with some sleep in between. I like the current format, as it gives everyone time to evaluate things round by round rather than put 100 players in a queue and hope.
A one day draft, especially on a Saturday would be a deal breaker for me.
