I rename my draftees each year as a mnemonic device and they usually have a theme. I plan on using this post to track/explain the yearly theme(s).
1974 Allocation - Real life NJ Generals plus their owner/punter 1974 Late FA rookie signees - 1974 __________________________________________________________________________________ Rather than continue scraping the bottom of the General barrel, I thought I would switch it up for the rookies I sign post draft. I was only 5 in 1974 so I had to wikipedia for info on that year. Richard Nixon - It's not every year a President resigns from Office Stephen King - Carrie, his first novel, was published in 1974 Greg Brady - The Brady Bunch was cancelled in 1974 Randolph Hearst - He was a wealthy publishing magnate whose daughter was kidnapped in 1974. If 1974 were 2004, Patty Hearst would be a reality TV star after her kidnapping adventures. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patty_Hearst Added 2 more rookies in Late FA 3 Seth Green - Comedian/Actor born in 1974, probably best known for Robot Chicken David Faustino - better known by his TV character's name, Bud Bundy. Married...is probably my 2nd favorite sitcom behind Seinfeld and he was also born in 1974.

The theme for 1975 is.........1975. One way or another, my names will be tied to 1975 in some significant way.
Pick 1.18 Daniel Tosh - The smart assed comedian and Dolphins fan was born in 1975. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Tosh

Man you just gotta have Stevie Nicks, and Lindsey Buckingham
Not to mention Gerald Ford, Nelson Rockefeller, Charlie Chaplin, any name with Davros, Tim Curry (Frank N Furter), Bobby Fischer, Bill Gates, Monty Python, Martin Brody (Jaws), George Carlin, Johnny Rotten (*** Pistols), Ronald Reagan, Peter Gabriel, and Phil Collins.....just to name a few. But it's your team.

But it's your team. Some of these suggestions I like, such as Monty Python and George Carlin. Python is not an available name in the name machine but Carlin is good. I like using musicians, in fact my Arizona team in MFN 70 has several already. I am a metalhead so my names will mainly be metal bands. *** Pistols is on the punk/metal side but Rotten isn't allowed. Would have to spell it Rotton, but I think I'll pass, as I have some others in mind. I will not use Rockefeller. Not paying homage to the owner of the planet, sorry lol. I like using names from things I like or have interest in. I will probably pick a name from the 1975 Cincinnati Reds. I was 6 years old and my first favorite sports team was the Reds, and living in Dayton my whole life, I am still a Reds fan even though they ****. The Big Red Machine of 1975/1976 is still the greatest baseball team I have seen in my lifetime. In 10 minutes I will find out which OL I will be selecting. |

I wanted to use Rod Serling from Twilight Zone fame. He died in 1975, but while alive, went to college in Yellow Springs, OH which is a tiny hippie village about 15 minutes east of Dayton. Comedian Dave Chappelle currently lives there.
Serling is not in the available list, but I've discovered a name in the NYG end zone that I can use. |

Silly superstition but I didn't want another OL named Steve Harris. That 70 draft was all Maiden. Bruce Dickinson CB 5' 10" 200 2-19 Arizona Arizona 70 73 Eddie Head* DT 6' 4" 295 3-17 Arizona Arizona 67 76 Steve Harris LT 6' 5" 315 4-16 Arizona Arizona 70 71 Dave Murray* MLB 6' 3" 248 5-15 Arizona Chicago 55 63 Adrian Smith WR 6' 2" 208 6-19 Arizona Free Agent 31 39 Eddie Head is for their mascot of course, Eddie The Head.
