Playoff Scenarios

I am very late with this as I'm about to start digging into this. What we do know for certain is San Antonio and Pittsburgh will have home field advantage. More coming soon.

American Conference Playoff Picture

BYE: San Antonio

Division Winners: Denver, Michigan

Made Playoffs: San Jose, Honolulu, Memphis

In the Hunt: Los Angeles, Houston

In the Pacific Division, San Jose needs to beat Denver to win the division. If they lose and Honolulu beats Detroit, I don't know who wins the tiebreaker. They split and have the same division record, and would have the same conference record if SJ loses and HON wins. Regardless, both teams are in.

Los Angeles needs to beat Florida to claim the last wildcard spot. Should they lose, they need to hope Houston loses to Cleveland. Oakland is out I believe, either in a 2 way tie or 3 way. In the 3 way, they would be eliminated for a lesser conference record than LA/Hou. A 2 way tie between Houston and Los Angeles would go to Houston, since they beat LA head to head Week 10. Los Angeles beat Oakland in Week 1.

That's the only playoff drama other than seeding in the American Conference.

National Conference Playoff Picture

BYE: Pittsburgh

Division Winners: Orlando, Shreveport

In the Playoffs: New York, Philadelphia

In the Hunt: Tampa Bay, Washington, New Jersey

This conference isn't as clear. Pittsburgh gets the bye while Orlando wins the Southeast. Shreveport swept Georgia so they win any tiebreaker and clinched the South. New York needs to beat Baltimore to win the East and may even win it if they tie with Philadelphia, that's unclear.

Philadelphia is in even with a loss. There could be a 4 team tie for the 3 wildcard spots but Philadelphia would eliminate New Jersey in this scenario and make the playoffs. You first have to eliminate all but 1 team from each division so if Tampa, Washington, Philadelphia, and New Jersey all finish 10-6, we must first eliminate one of Philadelphia or New Jersey. They split but Philadelphia has a 4-2 division record to 3-3 for New Jersey. The Generals would be eliminated, with the other 3 teams in, and the tiebreakers would continue for seeding purposes.

Tampa Bay will be in with a win over Boston or a loss plus a New Jersey loss. Washington will be in with a win over Memphis, or a loss plus a New Jersey loss. New Jersey must beat Pittsburgh and hope one of Tampa Bay/Washington loses to get in.

In the event there are ties at 9-7 for the last spot, Washington beat New jersey head to head and Tampa Bay has a better conference record.
