Pittsburgh and San Antonio got a free trip to Hawaii for World Bowl XLI, where the winner would square their World Bowl record to .500. This is also a rematch of World Bowl XXXIV, won by Pittsburgh. The Maulers come into the game 2-3 in World Bowls, winning XXIX and XXXIV while losing II, XXXIII, and XXXVII. San Antonio has played in 3 previous World Bowls, winning XXXIX while losing XXXIV and XL.
The first couple of drives were about field position until Thomas Hampton found Arthur Ortega for a long pass play that set up 1st and goal from the 1. Christopher Hayek plunged in 2 plays later and the XP gave Pittsburgh a 7-0 lead. That lead held up until right before halftime, when San Antonio got a FG to cut the deficit to 7-3.
The game turned in the 3rd quarter as George Warner threw 2 interceptions, leading to 10 points for Pittsburgh. Thomas Hampton found Arthur Ortega for a TD pass and Herbert Parks nailed a 53 yard FG to account for the scoring in the quarter.
Pittsburgh had the ball and a 17-3 lead early in the 4th when they drove for a FG to make it a 3 score lead. Feeling the pressure, George Warner threw his 3rd INT of the game, leading to Andrew Paul putting the game on ice with a 2 yard TD run. There were still 7 minutes to play but nowhere near enough time for a comeback the way Warner was playing.
Pittsburgh won mostly with a collective defensive effort and the offensive stats did not pop, however I do agree with MFN that Arthur Ortega should be the one to drive away in a 2015 Corvette for winning World Bowl MVP. Ortega made the play to set up the Maulers first TD and he scored the 2nd one himself and was the leading receiver for Pittsburgh.
