Congratulations to the playoff teams and good luck in your quest for a World Bowl victory. Congratulations also go to Philadelphia for finishing 16-0 during the regular season. Normally I'd include previous 16-0 teams and how they finished the playoffs but as some of you may have noticed, I haven't been posting much.
There are many reasons for that, some personal, some MFN related, and some just general winter blues. I won't elaborate other than to say I just have not been spending very much time at all on MFN. It kind of feels like it's barely staying afloat and I don't have much motivation to write as much. I hope that's OK with you guys, I know the USFL has been known for having extra content and tough competition.
I also didn't do my normal playoff previews as I think I'll refrain from making predictions other than New Jersey won't make the World Bowl. I'm leaning toward writing playoff recaps though, we'll see how I feel tomorrow.
Despite my negativity in general about MFN, I'm sticking around and the USFL isn't going anywhere as long as you guys keep coming back.
Well we're now down to the final 4 teams, with the San Antonio Gunslingers trying to win another World Bowl. They have to beat the Denver Gold to get there first.
San Antonio finished the regular season 14-2, winning the Southwest Division, then beating Memphis for a 3rd time in the Divisional Round after enjoying a BYE for the Wildcard. The Gunslingers have the #1 ranked offense and the #2 ranked defense and are pretty healthy coming into this game.
Denver finished 10-6, 2nd place in the West despite the 4th best offense and 7th best defense. They upset Midwest Champs Michigan 13-6 in the Wildcard Round before stunning San Jose 32-0 in the Divisional Round.
These teams did not play in the regular season so will the league powerhouse win or will the hot, upstart Denver Gold win? We'll find out soon enough, good luck tonight.
On the other side of the bracket we have The Battle of Pennsylvania with the Pittsburgh Maulers traveling across the state to play the undefeated Philadelphia Bell.
Pittsburgh finished the regular season 14-2 and champs of the Atlantic. They had the 5th ranked offense and defense this season and they beat Georgia in the Wildcard Round 29-13 before getting by Jacksonville 27-24 last week.
Philadelphia finished the regular season 16-0 with the 8th ranked offense and 4th ranked defense. Looking at their schedule it doesn't look very tough but they did play other playoff teams 7 times (New Jersey twice, Georgia, New Orleans, Denver, Oakland, and Portland). The Bell enjoyed a first round BYE before defeating New Orleans 20-3.
Good luck tonight gentlemen, may the best Pennsylvania team win.
