Welcome to the 41st season of USFL/WFL football. While I'm not pleased we have 4 open teams I am pleased everyone used a real kicker and punter. Our defending champs have a new owner and were rudely welcomed by Philadelphia, as the Bell won 25-13. The other World Bowl XL team, San Antonio lost as well, falling 12-9 to San Jose. We have a lot of football left but that result might mean a home field advantage tiebreaker down the road.
Scoring seemed down in Week 1 as only 11 teams scored more than 20 points and only Sam Axe (Oklahoma) topped 300 passing yards. Rushing numbers were strong as 7 runners topped 100 yards, led by Washington's Scott Jackson, who ran for 188 yards and 2 scores. Only 4 receivers topped 100 yards but it was led by a Washington player as William Flock caught 10 for 134 yards and 2 TDs.
Whether you won or lost, it's a long season and nothing is guaranteed. Good luck in Week 2 and beyond.
Florida won the first one before American Conference teams won the next 6. New Jersey then won 2 of the next 3 to make it 7-3 American after 10. The American Conference won the next 13 in a row for a 20-3 lead before New Jersey broke the string with back to back titles. The American then won 3 more in a row and 6 of the next 8 to take a 26-7 lead. The National Conference has now won 6 of the last 8, closing the gap.
