I don't feel like cutting and pasting just yet but I named my 6 rookies after characters in 3 TV shows that debuted in 2007. One show I like, one show is ok and one show I can't stand.
The one I like is Burn Notice, and my new QB is Sam Axe while Michael Westen is a SS.
The one that's just ok is Rules of Engagement. I didn't find it too particularly funny overall but they did have some hot women on the show, plus they had David Puddy from Seinfeld. In this show his name is Jeff Bingham and that's my 2nd DE that I drafted. David Spade was also on this show as the womanizer/douchebag Russell Dunbar. That's the name of the LB I drafted.
The show I can't stand is Big Bang Theory. I used to watch it but hate it now and idk why. Anyway I couldn't help but name my DE Sheldon Cooper, pairing him with Nathan Explosion from Dethklok. I also used Howard Wolowitz as my CB.
Outlaw country got what at least a single expert thinks, a last championship with an aging core that a good draft or two can fix before serious contention again. Let's see what happened in camp after the Outlaws make a pick in every round for the first time since 1998, a draft that had three two time championship players drafted in it, and what this draft might mean for the defending champs.
1.32 DB David Gonzalez 88 vol +4: A big swing to try and land a 10 year starter for the secondary. In the Southwest death division, DBs are needed on the dry plains to slow down the explosive offenses found throughout. Gonzalez figures to be a key part of the defense from day 1 and likely a 10+ year starter once he makes CB weight.
2.32 DB Christopher Parker 90 vol +6: Another swing at a position where ownership had to run slower, savvy players to try and contain teams. After some tough losses to a team that won't be named and their collection of speed, the Outlaws realized that won't cut it and prioritized adding even more speed to the back end. Parker's ceiling is not as high as Gonzalez but he will certainly continue to improve, no matter what those red bars say.
3.32 OL Edward Hayes 14 vol -8: Fun fact about these weights I use, an OL losing any amount of pass blocking very negatively affects their overall. Hayes busted slightly and still figures to be a good swing OL. How long he stays on the team and if he starts is entirely dependent on the talent around him unfortunately for him.
4.32 OL Nathan Davis 46 vol +5: Another likely depth piece and spot starter added to the collection of young OL ownership has been prioritizing. There was hope in the Outlaw camp Davis's strength could be put to good use and it seems that hope was not misplaced. Davis profiles to mostly be a RT but given his strength could be used all over the place.
5.32 OL John Joseph 38 vol -3: Someone forgot to update their scouting department to start drafting high vol players it seems. When the handsome culprit is found, he is expected to get a stern talking to. Joseph never really had a shot to make the roster except as a third C and even then there were likely better, cheaper options in FA. Strong chance Joseph is cut before the first preseason game.
6.32 DL John Williams 96 vol +3: Someone finally updated the scouting department and that extremely attractive and smart individual got off the hook. Williams booming helps his case to make the roster but even at 96 vol booming he has shown very little improvement for a DL. There is a case that young LBs are needed and Williams could grown into that role albeit being a little slow to be a full time starter.
7.32 DL Bruce Rosson 82 vol +2: Much slower and much weaker than the Outlaws prefer from their DL, even with the boom it will be tough for Rosson to make the roster let alone be anything more than a depth piece that is usually a healthy scratch. At the time of this writing ownership may decide to keep him simply because he is already on the roster and ownership is unaware of what the DL depth chart will look like until after this.
UDFA: K Daniel Beaupre 84 vol +7, could be a hidden gem given the Outlaws have lacked stability in the kicking department since the Outlaws all time kicking leader Gerald Harmon rode out into the sunset in 02. The only thing blocking his path to making the team is that he did not improve much immediately and might need a few seasons to change ownerships minds he won't be a current liability.
Outlaw country might see a return to form on the defensive side of the ball assuming ownership isn't washed. An offseason trade bringing in a young talent on the offensive side of the ball has fans expecting Settles to take the team's all time passing record in style this year. Optimism abounds in Outlaw hideouts everywhere
