I'm looking for a clarification on this for the LDE2 on the GL sets. This position covers the RB on the only GL defense that goes cover 5. I obviously don't want to put an < 80 SP DE on the RB and watch the RB run away.

Is it OK to use an LB at this spot? (Only an LB because this spot can blitz on other GL defenses and I'd want to use multiple GL defenses depending on down and distance.)

If not, that's fine. I'm just tweaking defensive game plans.

---

Never mind. Forget all of this. It's only worth covering the 5 on the 311 set, and I'm NOT using that play against the 311. Still worth asking for folks that are.

I would have elaborated earlier but I was at work. With all the custom rules we have/will have, I want to keep things as simple as possible. That means no qualifiers, no exceptions, no LB on the defensive line, period. Unless of course the defensive formation dictates that. I forget which defensive play it is, but at least one play had 5 players on the DL I covered it in preseason when I noticed one of my LB on the line.

I know there are some defensive sets where the DE covers the RB, and it would be better to have a LB do that, but rather than allow an exception to the rule, just don't use those defensive plays.
