How about having a system that averages the salary cap for the league ??

By punisher

this way every team would have a chance of signing their players so they wouldnt have to trade most of their players or cut most of their players to get under the salary cap or let some players go because they dont have enough money to sign their players.

So either have the Salary Cap be averaged for the league or it averages the salary cap between the highest team to the lowest team or it averages the salary cap of the league by going thru the highest team to the lowest team then it gives the salary cap to the league once it has done that.

For me, GM's having to manage their cap and sometimes losing good players in the process is a good thing. It's not only the fun of the challenge but it creates more league activity with free agency and trades.

A college version of this game would solve your appetite for players who seek the type of game play that you propose above. Where managing a cap and contracts is not for them.

Why should I be punished for not over signing players or not participating in the FA market just so someone who did can. It is not my fault some owner put themselves in harm's way when the entire league has the same capital, just not the same room under it. And that is a direct action caused by the owner

added all 32 teams up and total is 480,590,060
now i am going to divide that by 32 knowing there is 32 teams which is 15,018,439
that way every team gets a 15,018,438 room under the cap

Everyone already had the same Cap number. It is up to the owner to stay under that number.

We did have a brief discussion in our league about whether the salary cap figure is too unforgiving in the early years of a league. There may be something to that argument, which I think is part of what punisher is advocating.

Unfortunately, my experience as a commissioner in a user-created league is that most of the coaches who struggle with this issue do so because they spent like a drunken sailor, ignored the warnings about impending free agency from both the MFN and the commissioner, or inherited a team whose previous coach had destroyed the franchise's salary structure, then quit the league. Sorry to sound like a frustrated parent.

thats basically why i think moonpygg left Star City Golden Pteradacdyls ( https://theefl.myfootballnow.com/forums/1/140?page=1#511 ) that really the salary cap figure was too unforgiving in Elite Football League ( https://theefl.myfootballnow.com/ ) which is in its 2nd year and thing is Grandadb was trying to help him with the team yet he says that it was too much too early so MoonPygg bailed on his team.

if the Salary Cap was somewhat forgiving then maybe he stays instead of bolting or maybe he still bolts yet we wont know as it stands now though if something changes maybe we would find out .

to go back to what grandadb said in the thread i gave for MOONPYGG i think somewhat he has a point

here is what he said

It could have been that plus he has not had much experience yet, was trying to help him with the team but it was too much too early. Would have liked to see Moon hang in there, maybe another day. If you look at the league transactions you will see that he was not able to re-sign any of the players up for new contract on the first offers, and did not know the players yet, so that had a lot to do with it to. For someone with several months experience or more, it would have been a lot easier. In the meantime, lets get Star City set up with a new owner. cheers!

what gets me is he gets alot of grief or at least i think he does and yet he did pretty much nailed it i think why those members pretty much get up and leave early and go try to play another game.

If the Salary Cap was forgiving maybe those members who leave us not long after they get discouraged by it then maybe they would stay here and they would be on the same level playing field as the veterans

And really we have to do something because if we had a rash of veterans leaving for whatever reason then really i would think this game would meet its end and it probably wouldnt end well for it.

Using the figures you provided, may I ask again why 21/32 (66%) of the owners in the league you provided be punished with a less cap of an average of minus $6 mill to use the way they see fit just because someone tried to "BUY" a championship? Once again, is it the 21 others owners fault that 11 owners can't balance a checkbook?

Is it a casino's fault that the 1 quarter you put in a slot machine did not give out the maximum reward?

Booger and Punisher both bring up very good points.

I completely agree with Booger that it wouldn't be right to penalize those owners that have strategically kept their cap in check for those that didn't.

I also agree with Punisher that something should be done for the benefit of the league.

Tribewriter is the commissioner of the USFL/WFL league in which I just joined. What he has done in that league is impressive. He "inherits" a team in trouble, turns it around, and releases it, so a new owner will have something to work with. He does this to keep the league strong.

What I would suggest is to have a committee of x number of experienced owners that would be willing to do the same in the public leagues they are in. If there are a healthy number of experienced owners that would be willing to do this, many of the leagues in which owners are coming and going, may stay longer if they can inherit a decent team, with some sort of salary cap and draft picks.

That's an interesting thought - maybe give a league owner the ability to clear dead cap for any team (or manually set dead cap for any team). That way the league owner could, at his discretion, forgive an abandoned team's dead cap to the point that it's more manageable for a new player.
