Let me make myself perfectly clear,
I have zero issues with the FCS league and applaud tye attempt. I've personally used similar custom rules for play usage in the XFL and had 2 league (General Manager league 1 & 2) which used very strict positional rules including a minimal weight for each position.
I enforced the rules which required 1 hour after every game to check all 32 teams. Unfortunately I suffered a stroke and had to give up admin duties in both those General Manager leagues and the person who took over ran them out of existence.
I had a situation years ago where I had a punt block rule in place. For those of you fairly new to the game, using a 90+ speed player (WR/CB) on the front four of the punt return team resulted in a crazy amount of punt blocks in version 4.5
That rule at the time was pretty standard across leagues because teams were getting 50 punt blocks a season. Anyway, everyone cooperated and punt blocks were removed from most leagues. Fast forward to the Conference championship game and in an incredible game team A won 63-56 over team B but team A used 4 90+ speed CBs on the punt return unit which resulted in a punt block for a TD.
A little investigation showed that during the regular season, team A never had "illegal" players on the defensive front four. At the start of the postseason, team A used nothing but "illegal" players during punt returns but unfortunately for everyone concerned, it wasn't until the CC game when team A finally got home and blocked a punt!
Now at that point what options did I have? Boot the offending owner which I eventually did but it doesn't help the owner who lost. I could have had JDB turn back the Sim but then the team that won the other conference would have been penalized making that not the fair solution.
After my stroke, I decided to remove custom rules from my leagues because I had to spent too much time checking compliance and enforcing them when all I really want to do is add extra content and write about my leagues. Basically rules aren't fun when you are league admin and I run leagues to have fun.
In the end, all the enforcing custom rules and all it takes is an owner willing to break a key rule then play innocent and the playing field isn't level at that point.
Besides, this is JDBs game and it's his responsibility to fix the holes in the game...not mine. I want to enjoy MFN without worrying about someone "cheating" so if their are no rules then nobody can cheat.
I play in leagues with positional rules and enjoy them because I'm not responsible for enforcing those rules and I have no issue following those rules. But I've learned in my nearly 6 years playing MFN is that a certain type of owner will push the limits of custom rules to see what he can get away with until that owner eventually disregards all custom rules with the goal of winning at all cost. It's the theory of asking for forgiveness after being caught instead of asking for permission first.
I wish FCS success but GDB isn't the man to rely on to lead such an endeavor. He has been CAUGHT four times in four different leagues breaking a leagues custom rules including a league where he was admin and wrote the rules. He is a proven cheater and continues to this day to deny it all after a ton of evidence was presented to him. He confidently blames the A.I. for creating the "illegal" thing for which he was caught doing. Ask yourself, does GDB sound like someone who doesn't know what he is doing?
