BTW

I 100% agree with you about this whole thing....ask around....I created 2 leagues where every player had to play his position with weight minimums for every position.

I never used WRs at RB and wanted to play this game as realistic as possible. Unfortunately I had health issues and had to let someone else take over those league while just keeping my 2 longest tenured leagues.

I would say 80-85% of all owners play this game "Straight" but you will always have those who will do whatever it takes to win....hence the custom rules I spoke of before.

It's sad because even if you had the perfect RB rated 99 at every attribute with an overall rating of 99/99 (if that's even possible) and had 95 speed someone would still make him a WR so he would gain even more speed.

I wish the game would play straight but it just doesn't because some owners won't allow it.

Even in that league, for sack leaders only 4 guys in the top 32 are non dline. One in the top 10 and the key here that league doesn’t have injuries either. If you play small guys in big places they will get injured more often. Not enough but it’s there.

Really cjfred s team is small but as a team they are mediocre at run defense...13th in ypc and for some reason 71% completion allowed.( possibly blitzes are to blame) I would attack his weaknesses no matter the code. Size at the right times would be one.

Skill positions definitely benefit from being smaller as they face same size guys. But the problem is the acceleration and speed and how it’s tied to size....this version has the windows but they were made a bit smaller so the same exploits are still there.

I got double digit sacks with a 229 pound DE. He had plenty of run stuffs too. 29 strength 38 acceleration probably didn’t help him much but the 100s in run defense and pass rush did. 88 speed at 229 pounds probably did the most. Still he never plays a full season due to injuries.

Really a pass blocking bug was patched cause of huge sack numbers and punt blocks. Those have been eliminated but other code weaknesses have been exasperated and certainly need work. But this release was to stop only those huge stats. Smaller players were way more effective in the older version too. The size speed thing has only changed for the better with each installment.

These are most of the sizes the players weight will trend to. There is a hidden frame the players weight stays within depending your designation. You can expect Between 50 and 100 pounds change most of the time. Closer to 50 most of that time.

Cj, are you suggesting that playing a WR at RB or RB at WR is "not realistic" ? I am a big proponent of running WR's from RB and vice versa. The reason some GM's might find it "unrealistic" are probably the same GM's that don't think twice about starting a FS at WLB etc.

You put the your best players in a position to help you win at all times.....that imho is very realistic....otherwise, why play the game to begin with ?

It's not the fact that WR play RB exactly but more the simple fact that a WR at RB is just faster and less weight then a RB....period.

The question becomes why have RBs, FBs or TEs period when you can make them all WRs where they become faster, thus more effective. Playing at 191-198 lbs at RB, FB or TE doesn't effect injury to a great extent.

This became a problem when after a players initial training camp....certain owners made everyone a WR then played them at all the skill positions.

A 245 lb FB with 80 speed and 90 run/pass block and 85 strength became a 198 lb WR with 86/87 speed and 90 run block/pass block and 85 strength who still played FB.

A WR can certainly play at RB and even in the NFL it occurs but Samuel and Patterson are well over 200 lbs, and unique in their ability to take the punishment. Hill is smaller and can be used on jet sweeps.

The difference is when you take a 95 speed 198 WR and he gets 20+ carries like he is Henry, running between the tackles...he should get injured quickly or at least be slowed down from the cumulative hits but that's not the case no matter what Raymattison claims.

And yes playing DBs at linebacker and even on the defensive line is another exploit used by some owners

My defense is 11 CBs with 90+ speed...most of them are empty speed players with very little attributes besides speed.

You are right, they should get run over and blown out but the speed creates such Havoc that turnovers and sacks end drives.

55 points allowed in 7 games (8 per) while being 5th in both rush and pass yards per game and 4th overall.

Those 11 should be run on at a historic pace since the average weight of the starting 11 is around 210 lbs.

I hope someone does dominate my defense and soon but it doesn't look promising unless I face 1 of the 10-12 elite owners in this game.

I've certainly not even tinkered with weight gain or loss, and yes, I can see how that might be unrealistic....I might need to adopt this approach LOL.

For the record, and not like I feel the need to explain, but I think the most carries my WR's might have got from the RB position is 10-15 in some games....and very few injuries as a result.

From what you say, it seems like there are some exploits to be had with regard to the weights/frame of a player.

@CJFred

If injuries are set low (as in Big Data, Death and Destruction and the early years of my own Beast Mode league) there is little/no jeopardy to playing WR at RB. From existing leagues with the 100 setting for injuries, WR at RB generally start the season well with a high average yards per carry. As the season goes on they generally either get injured (often serious injury) or their efficiency tales off. Probably best to ask Smirt about this as it's long been one of his strategies.

Theoretically, the way to stop people doing this is to turn the injury setting up. This would mean the cumulative effect of lightweight v heavier players would kick in faster (across the board) and possibly force owners to dredge the free agent pool and use IR.

I don't think any league has ever turned the injury setting above 100. I think it would be an interesting experiment to try to find the sweetspot between the two. I think it's close to the ideal right now. At present I would say if you use WR at RB five to seven times per game on outside runs with lead blockers you can really boost your production.

Is there any data/stats to back this claim up or are you just saying what you think we want to hear?

He'll pull up the one season where I came in HOT and went to the Conference Finals with a team I just picked up (Victory) but got banged around like a pinball machine with my play makers. Ray and Admiral cried tears of joy as my play makers got injured. (3 elite ones) What they fail to realize is a) I vary techniques based on league rules and when peeps get vocal challenging me and b) I break records left and right with my play makers. (i.e. see the short time span I got Gold leading in misc. TDs for the entire league existence of MFN-7)
