Judging Interest

How many people would be interested in a "big data" league?

The idea would be that all offense versus defense data would be aggregated and shared. Not individual team data but all data from all teams.

Base game plans on what plays work the best. Learn what defenses work against what offenses.

Beta code only. Other commissioners do a great job with subjective content. Who wants data?

That's a great idea. Can you add a proviso that every owner has to have the full allocation of 40 offensive plays and 30 defense?

Essentially you're giving every owner a scouting report on every team in the League. Whether they choose to use that info is up to them.

This isn't the idea. The idea is aggregating all data and anonymizing it. The idea of this is that plays work better versus other plays, and certain plays work better in the aggregate than other plays.

So it's not a scouting report. It's a summation of league usage.

So you could just draw it from an existing League?

I'd be very interested to see how the data changes between the four current formats of the game

BETA, 4.5, Roster Only and 4.5+ (with side rules for positions and weight)

I could, and I run my own data for my own teams. I want a league that would be interested in just playing with data.

How deep do you want to go. Down and distance?, Field position, goal line effectiveness (sometimes having a play that can get you 2 yards 80% of the time is better than a play that averages 8 yards but gets stuffed on the goal line)

Third down conversions?, Fourth down conversions, two point attempts, first down, defensive plays that get a high % of interceptions, sacks, fumbles and whether that is offset by giving up more yards or penalties

You can parse the CSV however you want. I have no interest in most of those statistics.

For passing offense / defense, I usually focus on these metrics: Completions, Attempts, Percentage, Median Yards Per Play, Standard Deviation of Yards Per Play, TD/INT Ratio, INT/100 Pass Attempts, Clean%, Total Sacks OR Sacks Per Dropback

If anyone is interested in all of the columns that I parse out of my personal data, you can see it in the parsing script. You can imagine the number of different ways I then slice that data.

I had a bit of time today, whilst waiting for the sim to be fixed. I had a look at the GW2 box score data for Legends - first downs, how you got them, third down conversions, 4th down conversions, penalties and penalty yards, red zone visits and success rate, time of possession.

Before you take a look guess what you think these stats should be across all 16 games

1. Average number of first downs
2. Do you get more first downs from the run or the pass
3. Average total for net yards per team
4. Fumbles lost percentage
5. Total fumbles for the week
6. 3rd down conversion percentage
7. Average penalties and penalty yards
8. Average number of red zone visits
9. Average drive start (Opponents yard line)
10. Which team had the most penalties called on them
