I've always had a complicated view of JDB. We are all grateful he gave us this game, which we can mostly play for free. But when he can't even code power rankings right, refuses to acknowledge his mistakes, misplaces his focus, and disappears for months on end, why should we have faith that he is capable of making things better?
That's why people are leaving — 4.6 is just the latest evidence that we're wasting our time.
He made no attempt to fix the worst problems with 4.5: irrational distribution of speed across positions, broken passing/receiving/coverage that is mostly limited to backside slants and backfield dumpoffs and how long your CB can jam a WR in place before he streaks past, limited playbooks with poorly designed plays, and massive mismanagement by CPU teams that wreck leagues.
He mercifully nerfed punt blocks in 4.6. But he also amped up the running game to hysterical levels, somehow made the passing game worse, sent sacks through the roof and neutralized speed across all players.
After presented with the obvious failings of 4.6
more than a year ago, with film and stats as evidence in the mfn1 forums, he apparently abandoned efforts to improve the game and pivoted to UI upgrades instead. Will these unspecified UI improvements make gameplanning easier or introduce the very basic feature of filtered search results? Place your bets ...
