Bronko nagurski is one of my favorite players.
Bingo Ray! you got it. Has to be one of, if not the best, football player names in the history of the game, and he looked like a Bronko! lol. What an awesome player he was in that era. Im also thinking that if jdb can do it, have a similar number and names of teams from the NFL 30s thru 50. But not a big deal, there are a lot of teams from that era, beginning with 1930, that are no longer in existence. Cleveland Rams (moved to LA, then St Lou, then back to LA, lol), Boston Yanks (that has to make Red Sox fans grimace), Brooklyn Dodgers, Chicago Cardinals,Frankford Yellow Jackets, was the first year for the GB Packers, Newark Tornadoes, Providence Steam Roller, Portsmouth Spartans, and Staten Island Stapletons. I think it would be fun to have those teams and their logos as part of this league, along with some of the teams from the original NFL formation in the 20s, like the Canton Bulldogs & Jim Thorpe. (He and Nagurski looked pretty similar! and they both have major football awards in their names).
And then there was "Slingin" Sammy Baugh, mentioned by Tarq, who would be considered the first QB to pass as much as hand-off, pitch, or run. Passing began at the college level, and slowly made its way to the pros, where it was used only sparingly by the early 1930s. Baugh is also the only QB in NFL history to also lead the league in punting, which was not a specialized position until the 60s. He also played safety on defense, which included having to take down Nagurski head on when the Skins played the Bears. Tough & rough back then.
