There are a lot of wide open drops . Plain and simple . Some of the reasons why may not be.
Randomness...yes a factor, but age or experience has more of an effect .
So does pressure on the qb....... a pass may look close but in reality it could be several feet out of the reach of said reciever due to the qbs pressurre circle being effected. Remember the helmets and shoulder pads are to the scale of a dinning room table with a lazy Susan on top
But the real reason we are seeing an increase of drops is most likely due to the effects play abuse. Maybe not every drop but as a team abuses a play more and more their players lose skill ratings.
So in theory your qb has 85 accuracy and your wr 83 hands ,but after the tenth time you ran the play thier skills are severely diminished . When I abuse plays twenty to thirty times a game I might see 50 % dropped passes when I am in that 20 plus range .
This play abuse thing is a " hack" in JDB's words . ...so I don't see it being here forever, but prior to it I though drops were a bit high....under the right circumstance.
Still, courage is over Powered and catching under powered imo, but it's not that bad.
Also,, I hate seeing those converted qbs with low receiving skills be threats in the recieving game as much as the wide open drops by elite wrs .
