Player Stats- Player position

By Mr.Krazy

I just thought of bringing up the idea of having player position in one of the stats under player stats. That way, there is a better understanding of who is the greatest defensive tackle in the league for example or who is the best tight end.

similar questions , are there year end titles ? i.e. Rushing leader , passing leader , most sacks ? etc.

There's not an "awards" page (I do have that on the todo list) but you can easily see who those are using the player stats tab on the home page.

I'd like to provide an opposing viewpoint on end of season awards. I wouldn't want to see people putting together teams just to boost one player's stats and I'm worried that's what would happen if that change got implemented. I'd like to see the focus stay on winning games.

I don't understand what you mean by this.

Unless you're going for the most sacks allowed or something, how would this be a detriment to your goal of winning? If I want to be a primarily run based team, odds are I'd build my offense the same as if I was going for the rushing title.

As JDB has said, the stats are there. Everyone knows who the leading rusher is, for example. I don't see how having an award for it, or MVP, or anything else, would be a negative.

I'm not trying to dismiss your opinion on this. I'm genuinely curious as to why you think this will have a negative impact on the game.

If we look back at the ruins of a once great game, the Current Season Top Player Rankings are littered with teams that are focused on just player stats and not winning. This is what i'm afraid would happen:
http://glb.warriorgeneral.com/game/team.pl?team_id=739
http://glb.warriorgeneral.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1814
http://glb.warriorgeneral.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1888
http://glb.warriorgeneral.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1528

If a running back gets 2500 yards in a season, he'd be MVP. But in order to do that, a team might run 100% of the offense through the one player.

NFL teams though do this if they have a player that are close to setting team/season/league records. Didn't the Titans run the **** out of Chris Johnson when he was pursuing Dickerson's record? And the Lions this past season with Megatron?

And then there is the whole Favre/Strahan debacle.

I guess my point is, coming in new to this game, is there any advantage to having a league leader? Granted I'd rather my team win than set records.

There's a certain amount of adjusting gameplans for personal achievements, but I just worry people would make it the point of their experience here to boost one player's stats for multiple seasons. For instance, No NFL team would ever set up their defense to be terrible so that the opposing team could score quicker so that they could get the ball back in their star's hands to rack up more yards. That's happened on other football simulators I've played on. There wouldn't be an advantage in winning, but some people may want to do that instead of play to win, and that would be destructive to the game.

If a user on here wanted to run their team as you are suggesting, they would (or could) be doing it now.

I just don't see what difference it would make to show the leaders, or have awards.
