In real life, teams will rarely reject a coach from interviewing with another team. How often do you think that would happen here?

I could see maybe adding the opportunity to promote the coach within if he receives an offer from another team, but really this is how the NFL really works and behaves that way here to make sure that you don't have a coaching staff full of better coaches than other teams' head coaches.

But the teams knows that the coach is interviewing with another. And that's not happening here. I believe that is the issue.

I had a coach poached for the first time this offseason. My feelings are that you should be notified of the offer, and given a chance to keep them by making them a similar offer. It shouldn't be allowed to happen completely behind your back.

+1

In clarity, I believe that ALL coaches want to be a Head Coach, and I like the concept the site has that other teams can promote a coach from other's assistants. I also like JDB's idea of being able to promote from within, but I think the issue is not being aware of hiring a new coach.

I would like to know, for instance, if my LB coach Lee H. Oswald is interviewing for another team's defensive coordinator. Since I have NO problem with one wanting to improve themselves, even in a Sim game, I should either promote him and release my current DC, John W. Boothe, or let him go to pursue his career. I do believe that matching or bettering a contract should not be a hindrance.

What I think that the real issue is that coaches are not being notified. A simple "Team A is interviewing your team's assistant position coach for the DC/OC/HC position." message be sent. And based upon the coach either accepting or rejecting an offer from the new team, can also put in the message, "You will need to find a suitable replacement for the position."

if its the head coach that determines everything, with minimal effects from oc and dc,why not hav every head coach come in with their own pkge,ie:oc,dc and position coaches.then hav a pool of independants to draw out of,if you so desire?all the coaches under the hc would b bound to him,and only leave if fired or retiring.any thoughts?

Fwiw ..

Every Early FA day 1, I reup my OC/DC .. I could careless about the PCs .. until they actually matter in the game, there is no reason to worry if they leave.

I guess the point I'm struggling with is why does it matter if Team A is interested in your LB coach? You should at the start of FA determine if he should be your HC/OC/DC .. not because another team wants him ..

But if you, as a owner, is satisfied with your top 3, and believe you have a good foundation in the assistants, then it would be refined to at least allow the team having knowledge of possibly losing their foundation. As I stated earlier, a simple message like

"Team A is interviewing your assistant position coach, (name) for their DC/OC/HC. You must promote him to your DC/OC/HC before the end of free agency period or he will join Team A's staff. " .......will suffice

Contract details need not be mentioned, but should come into effect in negotiations in the promotion.

As I said earlier, its not that other teams are poaching coaches, but the not knowing that a team is interested in a coach is the problem.

Why? The only reason they are getting poached is for their offensive/defensive playbooks. While your OC/DC have a moderate effect on your players development, they are easily replaced by poaching from another team.

This is one of the many things wrong with this site. In the NFL, NCAA, and even high school, the coach under contract has to seek permission to seek a better job and break their contract, therefore giving the owner of the contract an indication of the coach's intent, and possibly being able to match or improve it.

But then when you have successful others who justify it and even encourage poaching and stealing from another, just so they can continue to be successful and show everyone how to be successful like they are, it says a lot about the ethics and integrity of others.

So I agree that the current owner of a coach under contract should have the right to match an offer from another, or at least be asked for permission and made aware that another team wishes to interview a coach under contract. If not, why have a contract? Just eliminate all the coaches each season and have a coach allocation to each team.

Wait until you get one poached by a cpu team

If you are already satisfied with your top 3, why does it matter if someone wants to make your LB coach their DC/OC/HC? It's not like you would want to get rid of yours to promote him yourself our you would have already done that.

Took me awhile but I think this is what you want to know ...

You have a LB coach I want as my DC

You want to know I offered a contract to him and you want a chance to retain him?

Here's what I don't understand.. why?

Why do you want to retain him when he offers next to nothing as a PC?
